    Hi,

I am new to this forum and I am amazed how people are helpful to each other. I just want to ask a simple (or maybe according to some people, stupid) question.

Here it is: I had a teammate in a good, random match and we had a little chat. He said that I could add him as a friend but he stated a few times that it should be only Read ID friendship.

I got a little bit suspicious when he insisted on Real ID friendship. Can it be related to account stealing? any kind of hacking? or even ID theft or so? Why would someone accepts only Read ID friends?

I read about Real ID, read the FAQ and only have a few close friends as Real ID friend.

What information can he get from me? I know he can see my real name and my Real ID friends, my status among other Battle.net games etc. But can he see my email or something?

Any experiences or opinions about this?

    Thanks in advance.

Dunno about any possible implications, but I personally don't add real-id friends unless from people whom i know iRL.. There could be exceptions, but so far I haven't made any...

if you add HIS email, i dont believe he can see yours, but if you do add each other as real id friends, he can only see your first and last name. there are perks as well, when you came online, when you got off. he can join your games while your in the lobby, and thats about it.

I wouldn't. There are so few benefits to realID (especially considering you only played and chatted) that there's really no need to insist on it. Unless they want to stalk and question you about why you didn't play with them when you were online at this and that time ;) as well as the possibility of hacking, but I know too little to have an opinion on that.

tl;dr, if you want to game with them, character friend is enough, or worst case scenario you'll meet other nice people who will settle with character ID

I don't see the need for the use of real id on starcraft, to be honest. I only have a lot of people on mine because of world of warcraft. A lot of different people with multiple chars, spread over different realms, etc. On starcraft 2 you do not have this problem.
