God of War...I remember it like it was yesterday...

I was trying to memorize a speech for my Rhetoric class last year, when my friends next door starting screaming. (this was in my dorm, where every two rooms are connected by a bathroom)

"HOLY SHIT! OH MY GOD DID YOU SEE WHAT YOU JUST DID?!?!"
    "OH.......MY.......GOD"

I rushed over and my eyes bathed in the blood and gore that is God of War. It is one of the most innovative, unique, fun, challenging, and breathtaking games I have ever played.

needless to say I bombed the speech and spent the entire weekend playing the game (I mean the ENTIRE weekend)

You can rip guys in two at the torso, lop off minotaur heads, slice people in half, and rip off the heads of medusas...

there is just too much to describe in a thread that isn't devoted entirely to it....

    *idea*

I agree with MasterM, Shadow of the Colossus is a great game. It's hard for me to choose one game that left the biggest impression on me, but Shadow of the Colossus is definitely up there.

Freespace 2. When i first saw this i was not impressed (after first missions), but when shivans came and all missions became harder and harder, when the main plot started to be interesting, when the climate became darker, finaly when i finished campaign i was soooo exited, that i have never removed it from my disc.

Wow, I can't believe I overlooked HL2...you are right Gold. But really, the part of HL2 that contends with God of War is Ravenholm...pretty much how I felt for that one level is how I felt for the entire duration of God of War

Midnight Club 2 - a street racing game, possibly my favourite game ever.

CPAL - a RPG, very good storyline, made me cry :p.

Alpha Centauri. The stuff I learned in that game actually helped me in school: I was able to apply concepts I learned in it to three different AP classes: U.S. History, U.S. Government and Politics, and European History. 8)

A close second would be Mono. No history or social insight, but it showed me how great things can be done with perfectly ordinary features.

    Best game....God of War.

Most influential....I'd say Golden Sun for the GBA. It got me hooked on RPGs and I've never looked back.
Age of Empires is up there too. A wonderful RTS

The most stunning game ever is definately Silent Hill 2. The whole series (well, maybe not the 4th game) is just my type. The storyline and graphics alone would make me fall in love with it, but the master composer Akira Yamaoka really brings it to life. Too bad the movie didn't quite reach the quality.

Actually, I think Age of Empires 2 left the biggest impression on me...I played it for so long and it made me love history (and helped me in class too)

The only game I played longer than AoE2 was Battlefield 1942...oh man I miss that game....

Planes, subs, carriers, destroyers, tanks, apcs, jeeps, sniper rifles, submachine guns, mg nests, assault rifles, bazookas, MINES, EXPACKS omg what a game

ps - Fenix gimme a favorite and most hated part/enemy/puzzle for GoW

I had many favourite games, but the few that left an impression on me were command and conquer, the entire series and halo.
first played command and conquer when i was quite young, the orginal command and conuqer tiberian dawn. yeah it rocked. And i'm now playing tiberian wars! =D
Halo, yep, brings back memories. Everyday before school i would sit there on the com and mutiplay all day...dam those were the days. now halo2 pc is...lol WTF?

I totally agree with this.. God of War is simply stunning.. the backgrounds are making you say "wow" all the time.. the huge rooms in the super uber huge temple are amazing.. with all the huge gargantuesque statues.. its simply insane..

about other games that had a big impression on me.. well.. I only play the games that are stunning me.. I don't play many games.. so I'll name a few..

Tetrisphere for N64: this game isnt popular at all.. but it's so great.. it's the best video game puzzle i've ever played.. it's more challenging than the original tetris.. and much more complex.. .. the music is awesome too..

Super Mario 64: OMG WOW! this game is so unique.. who needs the other linear platformers when you can play mario in the order you want.. the way you want.. making your own personnal challenges (getting EVERY coins.. or simply.. NO COINZ AT ALL.. etc) the way mario jumps (wall kick and the backjump when you change direction quickly... etc.. triple jump, long jump..) adds many possibilities to the game..

Katamari: this is the best game to play when you just want to relax and lol a bit.. the concept is so unique.. this is my favorite game, over starcraft...

    now for the online games:

    starcraft has it all....

    dota is very fun too..

I never did that, my friend brought back an illegal version from China, so I played his PS2 and copy. did it give you any benefits? did it look cool?

I bought and beat the second one in like two days and there are so many costumes...there is one made from Hydra (the mythical animal) scales that gives you better health and there is this one called the Cod of War where you are dressed like a fish and your blades are fish hooks which gives you better mana

i used to play console games more than PC previously. Dune 2 is the first RTS game I played and it really made me interested in playing RTS games than other genres
