Anyone listen to rap here? I'm trying to get into it but I have no idea what's good. Right now the only rap music I have is Run DMC, which I bought on a whim coz they're supposed to be the gods of rap.

Nas is good. You should definitely have his debut album, Illmatic, and Hip Hop is Dead and Untitled. He has others in between Illmatic and the other two I listed, but I don't have them so I can't vouch for them.

Talib Kweli is good. You should definitely have Quality.

Other than them, I don't really follow any one artist. Some of DMX's stuff is good. You can't go wrong with Dr. Dre. Geto Boys are a fun listen too.

The only rap I like is Linkin Park, which is like... kind of heavy rock-rap-sex?

Well Nik I hope you're right about those albums. Now, can anyone vouch for 2pac? Heard he's one of the best but I've never heard any of his songs, so... yeah.

And dark I do listen to some metal and mostly rock but I'm trying to expand my library here. Don't kill me for it :p.

Linkin Park is a great transition to get you in to rap if you like rock, or in to rock if you like rap.

My transition was Aerosmith and Run-DMC actually. I've listened to Linkin Park for a long time now.

    Thug rap is ****e.

However, the lyrical rap, the stuff that actually has a message besides poppin' caps and *****in hoes or whatever, is sometimes good. Usually, that comes from oversees (UK, French, some Russian). However, I tend to enjoy some of Eminen's music. Though I may not agree with his style of music, he's got some great poetry in some of his songs.

    Eminem isn't bad.

    Ludicris isn't too shabby either.

K-OS I think is the name of the rapper I listened to when I was still into him.

Not a bunch of crap but actually neat to listen to.

I listen to rap, hip hop, techno, dance, trance, electronica, house, alternative, indie, metal, industrial, funk, punk, reggae and all sorts of stuff.

The album L'ecole Du Micro D'argent by IAM is the definition of awesome (it's basically the touchstone of French rap).

    K-OS isn't gangster.

Although I wasn't listening close enough to understand most of the songs, I know they aren't about popping a cap in someone's ass.

Are you french Nikzad? I didn't know. =)

Beyond Gorillaz et Linkin Park, I can hardly listen to any rap: the concept is ok, but it has been so much spoiled by this american marketing style that I can't stand all those fat guys in big cars with babes all around etc. Some clips like this, ok, but it's like you endlessly listen to the same thing, it's just a kind of some soft porn...

I like Eminem's energy, but I think his music is pretty bad most of the time.
