Sometimes for several days in a row SC2 will run just fine, then the next day it crashes... The other day I had 3/5 games crash on me. I had a much slower setup before and it would run the game fine. I'm running a Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 ((currently Overclocked to 4.0ghz) I've tried going back to stock settings and it doesn't seem to make any difference.) 4GB of Kingston 1066 ddr2 ram (@ 2.2 volts because 2.3 volts seems to give me bsod constantly) Nvidia Geforce GTX280 Windows 7 Windows is perfectly stable in current setup. SC just crashes about 2-3 minutes into any game i've started today. I was hoping somebody might be able to pull even a tiny bit of insight into my problem from the crash log that SCII gives you. Not exactly sure what part might be of use so here's the first part that states an access violation. I saved the log in a TXT file so please if anybody knows what might be going on just ask for any part or whole of the error log. TIA! Please post a dxdiag of your system here. Also, tell me the make and model of your motherboard. To run dxdiag=> Windows_logo_key+r, dxdiag. If you have 64-bit windows, click the button at the button that says "Run 64-bit DxDiag," Then save all the data by clicking "Save All Information..." zip/rar the text file and attach it to the post. Instructions on how to zip here. To create a rar file, first download and install winRAR then read this guide here.
I have a Nvidia 780I SLI board The RAR version of the file would'nt upload but zip was no problem...weird. Anways, thanks for your quick response, You seem to be rockin these boards! lol thx!
btw I dropped it back down to 3.0ghz and it is currently running ok with everything set on MEDIUM, but it's always been an intermittent problem.
I figured out from the DXDiag that the make of the motherboard is "XFX", and that the model is "nForce 780i 3-Way SLI." In order to get support (updates) on the board, you need to register on their website, which officially makes this a brand of motherboard I will never own. "We recommend updating the BIOS on your XFX Nforce 780i SLI ( MB-N780-ISH9 ) to version P08. " That is directly from their support page but you must register to get the BIOS update. It may improve system performance. And why and how did you install an unsigned driver for your Creative Soundblaster card in Windows 64-bit? They are dated 3/18/2010? Creative drivers are almost total crap to begin with, so its important to install the latest signed drivers, which are actually newer: 4/9/2010. I would pray at that those drivers are signed, but knowing Creative's track record for making and marketing crap... To add to Creative's crappyness, I would link directly to the drivers, but you'll have to navigate their support page yourself and find the drivers because they don't allow linking!? Who knows, maybe it will work?! Sorry, I really REALLY REALLLLLY hate Creative. Imo, I would pull that Creative card.. and test with the onboard sound instead. I think the onboard is Realtek based, and they probably have the best soundcard drivers on the market. It looks like you are running the newest nVidia SLI chipset drivers, but I can't be 100% sure since there are so many listed in the dxdiag. You should have no issue playing this game in High or even Ultra, I mean.. my buddy plays on his 9800GTX 512MB (GT250) and the game plays fine in all Ultra but High Textures. If the game plays fine with the suggested settings I just gave while not overclocked, you will probably want to head over to the HardOCP forums where you can find overclockers who will know what they are doing and can help. If the game still crashes and has issues, I would try updating the BIOS first and see if things improve. What are you running for a power supply?
The creative drivers were the newest I could find but I will just pull the card. I'm using some pos sony powered speakers anyways, not like sound processing is really a high priority anyway lol. (I build and design speakers for a living) I will get the newest motherboard drivers and see if those 2 things improve it. The processor I'm running has been overclocked the entire time it's been used really. My roommate has been running his (same proc) at 4.0ghz for over a year i believe. I just bought this board and proc from his OLD room mate. That's what's so confusing because he never had any issues running it with the same settings. Power supply is a 750 watt Corsair thx for the help i'll let u know how it goes
Also noticed that ram was still set at 1066 and it was running fine for the past 7-8 matches...so, scratch that...
I wish I had more ideas. You got plenty of power to backup that rig.. so that can't be it. Try the onboard sound first, see what happens. Even though XFX list as "XFX HD Audio" I think its a Realtek sound chip because of the driver version. Realtek has a new driver out monthly, like clockwork. You may not always need to update, but if you have sound issues, you can normally get an update easily. Unlike Creative. Man I wish Realtek made stand alone cards... but they normally don't need too.. the cards are awesome if you use the digtal out.
I think you nailed it! Pulled the card and updated the motherboard drivers. Just set everything on ultra and it ran SMOOTH I believe it was actually the sound card. Now that I think about it it always seemed to crash in the middle of a sound clip. Like "you require mo.........ghzzzrr re vespine gas" then crash! and it would always hiccup when first getting into the game... Thanks for your help I'll let you know if it continues to be happy.
