Can anyone give me like a really quick recap of the important events that happened at the end of Brood War in a couple of sentences? I'm really lazy and don't wanna read paragraphs of story, just enough so I'm not completely clueless when playing the sc2 campiagn =/
Not sure what part is the end, so I'll cover the entire expansion -Protoss flee from Aiur to Shakuras, Raynor and Fenix are left behind -Zerg follow them -Protoss ally with Kerrigan and search for two ancient crystals -during this period the UED invades, looking to exterminate the Protoss, take over the Terran government and enslave the Zerg -Protoss manage to find their crystals, but kerrigan betrays them and kills aldaris. Protoss use the Xel'Naga temple to wipe out all the zerg on Shakuras -UED starts taking over confederacy worlds, encounters Duran, and conquers the dylarian shipyards, obtaining a fleet -UED attack Korhal, to try and capture emperor Mengsk, Mengsk is saved by an alliance of Fenix, Raynor and Infested Kerrigan. (Fenix and Raynor know nothing of her earlier betrayal on Shakuras) -UED find a psi disruptor, with which they can take out zerg swarms by disrupting control, Duran turns out to be infested and kills vice-admiral Stukov -UED enslave overmind and most swarms, has trouble controlling them, so galactic domination has to wait until they figure out how to control the overmind - the alliance of Fenix, Raynor, Mengsk and infested Kerrigan destroys the psi disruptor - the alliance of Fenix, Raynor, Mengsk and Infested Kerrigan manages to take back Korhal after raiding Moria for resourses - Kerrigan betrays the alliance and kills Fenix and general duke - Kerrigan kidnaps Raszagal, matriarch of the Dark Templar, so Zeratul is forced to help her kill the overmind - overmind is killed - Kerrigan forces Zeratul to kill Raszagal - Zeratul encounters Duran on a moon, who reveals himself not to be infested at all, but rather working for a higher power, trying to create a new Xel'Naga race by combining Zerg and Protoss DNA - Kerrigan defeats Artanis fleet, Mengsk's fleet and the UED fleet, exterminating all UED battleships and killing admiral DuGalle.
The UED (fascist Terrans), goes to the Korpulu Sector (main StarCraft galaxy) to enslave Zergs and overthrow the Terran Dominion. UED is successful for a time, but paid for it at the cost of many lives and one of its leaders. Protoss abandons their former homeworld (Aiur - lost to Zergs), and goes to Shakuras (homeworld of outcasts Protoss) Zerg follows them. Chaos ensues, Protoss decides to sets off a nuclear explosion x1000 in Shakuras and the survivors warp to another Protoss world. Kerrigan (former Terran military agent/now leader of the remaining Zerg broods/main villain) tries to overcome UED but doesn't make much progress. She convinces her former lover (Jim Raynor * - influential Terran character and a friend of the Protoss) Arcturus Mengsk * ("emperor" of the Terrans who are against the UED/also left Kerrigan to die many years ago, and the Protoss to unite against the fascist UED. They succeed in giving the UED a hard time, and then Kerrigan decides to betray all of her above mentioned "allies" Anyways, Kerrigan's former allies along with the UED tries to defeat her forces. They failed. The leader of the UED commits suicide, everyone else tries to regroup and recover their strength. Zeratul * (an influential Protoss character/Dark Templar), finds half Protoss/Zerg "hybrids" in a Terran installation on a planet. Becomes traumatized. * Zeratul, Jim Raynor, Arcturus Mengsk, and Kerrigan are major and influential characters in the StarCraft universe and will be featured in StarCraft II What happens next will be continued in StarCraft II.
Despite all the business with the new overmind and UED being interesting, the local star systems find themselves in the exact same situation as they did at the start of Brood War. Mengst is emperor, Kerrigan is queen of the zerg, and the protoss make no gains either. Although Stukov is resurrected by the zerg and then uninfested by Raynor. The UED isn't completely destroyed and the small factions that remain and become mercenaries.
