Can't we have some kind of thread create limit for new members?
Like, only 1 thread in the first 24 hours and only in the introductions board? There are more advertisement spammers every day. Meh, that is the price you pay for being the biggest site.

I checked it in the vb manual, and it is possible to give users of each rank specific rules. -well, about what they can and post and stuff, like new smiley sets, but also threads or polls-

You mean because of most of the useless stuff that insults even Space Junk?

 

If someone starts from creating topics in SJ it's usually an advertisement. I think we have a rule against joining just for making an ad before you contribute something to the community.

 

We have, and I have the feeling that they will get better very soon.

I'm looking into implementing this. Great idea.

I will DEFINITELY be removing the url code from new members.

But I have to balance this with not discouraging new users.

 

Set to a low number, like 20 or so posts.

Most spammers die after 1-5 posts, so 20 seems fairly reasonable.

Jon, if cannon fodder ranks at 20 posts, it would also encourage new users to keep posting and earn something new after those posts. You might want to take that into the balance thingy.

New members can still post links, though. They just will be unable to create click links, but only regular urls instead. It was mostly the new thread spamming that concerned me, like that advertiser today. -with the clan thing-

 

hmmm...... 2 things....

1. Being able to edit your thread titles
2. Disable the "automatic-space-remover" where it automatically removes spaces greater than one.
(example, type a letter, then hold space, then type again, when you post that, it removes the huge gaping space between the two letters. Reason is that i cant make a simple "text-graphic"... so we can revive the tiny pics thread)

 

I believe that there is a tag for ignoring that, but I wil have to look that up to be sure.

However, it is a bit annoying to be forced into using tags for some as basic as using the space button.

 

Ursa the simplest way to solve #2 would be to implement tables which BoP and I have been moaning about on and off ever since the switch to vB. Nothing has happened since then.

 

Jon is "looking into it". So when heart of the swarm is released, you might be able to make some tables about the statistics you have so far.

Tables have been implemented. This is a testing period to see how it goes. I do not know specifically how it works but I do know that you type:

[*table*]column1|column2|column3[/*table*]

to get

[table]column1|column2|column3[/table]

The first person to submit a Word document to my e-mail jtietz[at]starcraft2forum.org of a well formatted Table function tutorial will receive 200 minerals.

Wierd tags
What ever happened to [tr] and [td]? vB breaks with convention every chance it gets.

I can't use the [td] and [tr] tags because they only substitute HTML tags which is a very large security risk.
