What are the stranded file types for those guys? Is it possible to convert them?

I was thinking if you kick a buddies *** at SC2, will you be able to post the replay on his facebook page to gloat? Any ability to get them on youtube easily?

Or do they only play in the game's interface?

Replays are not videos, they are lists of commands the players make.

When you watch a replay, the computer simply plays the game for all players by injecting the commands from that list at the correct times.

Use xfire if you want to record a game video. SC2 should have a built in video recorder function.

So does that mean we can access this list of commands as a lit to say oberve a certain players style of gameplay and easily search for any patterns in their gameplay? I think that'd be more useful for the pro gamers in the SC contests.

In theory you could see that command list, but if the file is encrypted, you may not be able to, nor have permission to.

The command list is what is used to determine a player's APM. It simply counts all of the commands in the list and divides by the game length.

I doubt a list of codes would make much sense to human eyes though. :)

Also, some of the early versions of SC had a bugged replay recorder, or so I've read. When playing vs computer players in particular, the computer would do different things in the replay, which screwed up how the game unfolded.

BWChart lists all of the commands. I don't see why the built-in replay viewer couldn't do the same.
