I have only had the beta key for a couple days, and just recently started ladder 2v2 games.. I usually play quick games, but since I got into the ladder games it seems like the opponents I am matched with are always working in great coordination, far more than seems natural.. How is the matching made? My real question is, when you select a quick game do they match you up only with other "random" people also looking for "quick games"? Or is it possible/likely that I'm often getting pulled into a game that was created by a couple of teammates who play with each other frequently with another random player? I don't expect to be partnered with great players every time, but it certainly seems like I'm getting teamed with some very poor players while getting matched against some very good ones who work together well - confirmed by the replay feature..
If you go 2v2 quick game you'll go in a pool with players just like you. If you go 2v2 with a friend, you'll go against other people with their own teammates just like you.
Thanks Lobster.. I guess I was just unfortunate so far, or I just am not very good. Probably a bit of both.
Wrong. You can get paired against random team opponents just as often in AT as in RT. It's a side effect of beta. I've played many a games with my friends where an opponent's ally will do something stupid or leave and that person will say 'Damn, I hate these pub n00bs" or something similar.
Yep deckard is right. I have had a couple of similar experiences. It is however a necessary evil, as the vast majority of 2v2 are probably running a quick game solo rather than a party. If it didn't work out that way there would be almost no way to play with your friends.
I'm sure in retail that'll be fixed. As playing with your friend vs playing with arandom stranger is a totally different ball game.
yup, I understand the need for them to do it in order to match games up.. and it makes a bit more sense.. I'm still learning my way through different build orders and such, I only have about 15 total games under my belt.. got placed in bronze, and since i started ladder games it seems I've been totally overmatched in 2v2's.. I was an above .500 player in the "n00b" and placement games, but have lost every match since I started ladder play to what seems to be coordinated opponents.. I started playing 1v1 games, even though I find them more boring.. is there a way to set up "practice" games against the AI or something so you can work on build orders?
nevermind I found it.. should RTFM After launching StarCraft II, you will be asked to log in using your Battle.net account information. Once you log in and create or select a character, you will be brought to the main Battle.net screen. To play a match against a computer opponent, click the Multiplayer button in the top-left corner of the screen. Next, click the Create a Game button in the lower-right side of the Multiplayer screen. Select your map of choice, and then click Create Game in the lower-left corner of the screen. After clicking Create Game, you will enter a new game lobby. You can adjust game settings on the right side of the screen and add AI opponents by clicking the +AI button located in the upper middle of the screen. You can adjust teams by dragging the computer player to the opposing team (or keep a computer player on your own team if you wish to play 2v2 against computer opponents). When you're ready to begin, click Start Game.
At first, you should should think it should be two different ladders (paired and random) since it is placed as two different ladder types. But really, when you choose random, i think you should expect that some people that sucks, sometimes even just for being a troll. I play only with my paired friends, which is one i met over battle.net and a rl friend. But really, the fairness of the matching vs the speed of finding a match is what Blizzard have to think over, since they have chosen the find a match fast, and finding yourself or the opponent favoured, instead of longer searching with a absolutely even match. Maybe it should be something you yourself should be able to adjust?
you're always at the mercy of the system when you pick random as far as partners go.. I know I'll be paired with some people that are terrible, and I'll be paired with people who think I'm terrible but I would prefer it if I was paired against two likewise randomly selected teammates who don't know each other..
Well what if the match making system was used here. The game can pick you an equally skilled oponent. So what about an equally skilled partner too. So you have in essence the matching system picking 2 equally skilled people for 1v1 and 4 equally skilled people for 2v2. I know that's the aim. But if it worked really well that'd be nice.
