Hi! Had a quite interesting game recently. In this mirror match (i knew he was protoss) i first went off a little uncomfortable. Expecting something cheesy i went for a 12/18 gate followed up by another gate to prevent some Zealot-Rush. I tried to scout his base but he already walled off his natural with 2 Pylons and a forge. After scouting my own base for Proxy-Pylons i went for a CyberCore and a Robo.... As soon as the CC was ready i started warpgate-research, when the robo was ready i chronoboosted an observer. Thanks to the observer i found the 3 warpgates he was building and began thinking. My first thought was: Counter Void Rays with even more VoidRays. But it wasn't a real option since it would have taken me too long to start producing. He would have double the amount by then. So i took my Units to his front base. 2 Pylons, 1 Forge, 2 Cannons. I took out the Pylons (cannons weren't reachable since i had lots of zeals) as fast as possible, destroyed the forge and went in. By this time he had 2 Voids ready but i started to harass his economy knowing that he cant get the Vespene out of 1 base for 3 Stargates. His two voids raped my units since i had only Zeals, 2 Stalkers and a sentry ready. But i already went for my plan B.... Meanwhile, in my base, i started building more Warpgates up to a total of 6 or 7. I have expanded and my income was satisfying. I planned to counter his Voids with lots of pressure and stalkers. Unfortunatly, i soon ran out of vespene myself since i hadn't expanded in time. But my plan was simple: Stalkers against voids, microing the one stalker that will be attacked out to prevent his Voids from powering up! Worked out well, i won, even though my micro really sucks!
I just won a game very similar to yours. Generally stalkers>air units. They only falter against mutas' movement,if you haven't got blink.
Eh yea, if you scout correctly you will see them going for mass voids at which point you know Terrain: Stim pack marines and or vikings Protoss: stalkers or phoenixs Zerg: Muta and or hydras
I played a PvP game recently, went for a proxy pylon, but had an idea to get 3 pylons around his base and send troops in from all sides(2 of them below the cliffs and one of them near his natural), got all-excited about my cool plan, forgot to build an army( I was like expecting to build all the army together when I was prepared to warp them in), and kept building gateways. Also forgot to scout my backdoor and guess what? His 1 unscouted proxy pylon did a better job than the 3 of mine as he sent in ~12 zealots against my ~2-3 and obliterated me. Oh well, lesson learned Nice one with those Void Rays, btw
You did the right thing with expanding quickly. When you see a Protoss player walling in, you don't have to worry too much about tier 1 units since they can't get out of the base, just like yours can't get in (yes i know they could have a proxy pylon or warp outside of the wall in, but not easily). An expansion is a very safe move at that point and it will allow you to dominate the small number of higher tech units they will be able to produce from one base. Nice work. Also, blink is perfect for beating void rays. Blinking away so the voids can't charge up severely handicaps the voids.
It seems the best strategy against void rays is to hit early but I guess that can be said when going against any opponent who is teching up.
