Several of my last pvp games have result in the other guy forming huge stalker groups, not sure what I should focus on to counter this. I was doing collossi and void rays and I cAn mow them down for awhile but it's usually not enough to keep them down. Any suggestions appreciated.
Charging zealots and colossi....you'd need a lot though if he's massed a REALLY big stalker army, and blink would get very annoying too...I dunno, I'm not much of a Toss player but in 2v2's my ally is toss and always mops up stalkers with charge-lots xD
The hard counter would be immortals. In order to counter the mobility of blinking stalkers, force them into an engagement.. by attacking their base. Immortals, zealots, colossi, and some of your own stalkers will work well. Sentries with guardian shield help a bit as well. Mostly immortals.
@JD *sees larger stalker army* *freaks out* *calms down* *vortex* *Psistorm when vortex dissipates* xD but its not like you'll get that... personally, I really did just psi storm people when they out massed me. which happened on 3 occasions. the rest of the occasions, i outarmy THEM with 200 supply
charging zealots do well and imortals will rip them a new one, but immortals are expencive, which is why i love my massive stalker army with zealots + robo something /+temp something build.
Best solution for countering stalkers wit toss is to use charging zelots / colosi for ground. Voids generally tear em up as well, alot of it depends on ur numbers though.
Immortals. Their insane "vs armored" damage counters every armored ground unit in the entire game, and stalkers are no exception.
Yep, the answer is Immortals. not sure how even colossus got mentioned - Colossus AoE hits in a "line" whereas stalkers are often in ball formation as when you blink the end up all balled up, especially when you have a big group of them. Additionally, the Stalker takes up a lot of physical space so that also limits the number of units that can be hit by Colossus AoE
Zaner has it right, Immortals are the proper counter. Since you obviously can't pump as many Immortals as he will have Stalkers you will obviously need other meatshield units to help out. Zealots, Sentries, and Stalkers are good choices to fill out your army. But Immortals will absolutely demolish his Stalkers.
First off, make sure you scout Terran and know what build they are going for. If they are going for a Mech build, build a lot of Immortals with a nice mix of Zealots and Stalkers. If they are going for an MM build, make Colossi with a lot of Stalkers (nothing is more annoying than air units taking out your Colossi). That's what's worked for me at least
No I think he meant how to counter stalkers if you are playing as terran. The answer there is marauders.
Immortals will rape Stalkers, especially once they're upgraded. You can't just rely purely on immortals though, since they attack ground only, so get some Phoenixes for support if he comes in with air power or Colossi. Colossus looks really impressive on paper and on the map, but it's really only effective against light armored units, like infantry. Stalkers are armored, however, and are very resistant to the Colossus's weapons.
Immortals. Then chargelots. I usually go for an immortal build versus Protoss. I go 1 gate, then cybernetics, then second gate, then second gas. I spend my first 50 gas on warp gate, 2nd 50 gas on 1 stalker, then I make a robotics and a third gate. I try to mix mostly zealots with a few stalkers and sentries. If I get stalker rushed, the zealots (with a few stalkers and sentries) should be able to hold them off until I get the first immortal. Once I have an immortal or 2, I make a shadow council and expand. Depending on how the game is going, I usually attack once I have 2 or 3 immortals. Once I get chargelots, the stalkers are in trouble. Chargelots + Immortals is brutal versus stalkers. If you use this build, there are two things you need to look out for--colossi and air.
Marauders are a hard counter to stalkers. However, you have to be careful, as Colossus will decimate infantry in short order. If he's running Colossus, cover the Marauders against Colossus with Vikings (anti air weapons can shoot Colossus because of its size). Vikings have long range and can engage the Colossus from a safe distance. If the protoss player is running Stalkers and Zealots, respond with Marauders, Marines, and Medivacs, or Marauders and Helions.
Immortals can damage Colossi pretty bad. Immortals do heavy damage to armored units, but Colossi aren't that great against armored units like Immortals. But air is dangerous in this situation. Phoenixes are the best answer, as they can protect your ground units from air strikes and they can also engage Colossi.
