I can't seem to win against a zerg player that quickly counters my build using hydralisks and eventually corruptors. I usually do the void ray rush and quickly kill the queen and begin to kill workers while setting up for a 3 warpgate rush but no matter what the zerg player always counters with some quick hydras that own my first voidray and by the time I warp in some stalkers/sentrys I'm already getting owned by a small mass of hydras. Any ideas on how to overcome this would be great thanks!
stop rushing voids, maybe build one and do what you do but then build up a force of charging zealots and collosus, this is whats called a force. though it maybe un nessesarry simply because zerg tyically go for either hydras and roaches, rarley mutas. simply put void rays are not that great and are easy to beat with hydra esspeccialy on creep when they move way faster than you do.
Void Ray massing is one of the most common Protoss strategies out there; Even if you're not massing Void Rays the Zerg opponent will probably be teching to and massing Hydras out of paranoia anyway. Use this to your advantage - Build a small force of Void Rays (2-4) and proceed to attack your opponent's mineral line as you normally would. Try to keep these few Void Rays alive while researching Charge for massing Zealots, plus a few Colossi, Stalkers, and maybe even High Templar. If all goes well your opponent will mass Hydralisks in response to your deceivingly small Void Ray harassment, only to be cut down by your anti-Hydralisk force.
Kaaraa I just tried what you suggested and it worked! I had two void rays harassing his workers so he continued to pile on the hydras and I was pumping out zealots from the 3 warpgates while researching charge and quickly counter attacked before he could tech to anything else. The trick was to move in and out with my void rays while my zealots were charging to attack so while they were busy trying to take out my void rays the zealots were already in close range to charge. I also found a strategy on youtube using psionic storm but I haven't tried it yet, thanks for the suggestion I'll try some colossi next time.
That's a really good suggestion. In general, void rays are a large damage unit designed to focus on one single target at a time, so the best way to balance it out is with a unit that deals a more spread out damage such as a collossus or possibly a carrier. In general, I find carriers and colossi to be two of the best compliments for the void rays, but you can mass whatever you like to counter. Just try not to rely too much on one unit as it is a knee jerk response for your opponent to counter that composition as soon as he sees it, leaving you exposed after your first attack.
