Hey this is my first post so im going to try not to be too much of a noob but it's gonna happen at some point. I'm still learning SC and am losing more than winning but normally i can see where i'm going wrong. Today on scrap station though vs terran i thought i was doing pretty well had taken out his main base and expansion with a few darktemplars but didn't notice him getting the expansion that can only be reached by air when I did he had fortified it with bunkers and missle turrets and everything i threw at him got chewed up. I could land any troops without my transports being blown up even with void and carrier support. My macro isn't the best as i am still getting the hang of it so probably would have been able to take him with massed carriers but by that time he had those big terran gun shps forget thier name  what is the most effective way of taking this down. I realise i should have planned for it and had some thing to deal with it earlier but once it is set up is there any way to deal with it or just ride it out and build a shed load of voids and carriers? Thanks for any tips or replies.
If he turtles (fortifies his base with no intentions of leaving it any time soon), you just expand like mad. Have 1 or 2 observers just outside their base and send scouts in occasionally. If you had scouted his BCs (those ships ) you could have easily dealt with them with a few void rays. So if you happen to see this again, be happy that he has no intentions of harassing you. Be as greedy as you like and alert as possible.
if your opponent is turteling on an island it should not be too hard to beat =.= btw where are you from?
I know it shouldn't be hard to beat that was why i wondered where i had failed so badly thanks for the replies and the tips kuvasz
Generally Void Rays are incredible against battlecruisers like Kuvasz said. Also when massed their power increases tenfold because while the ones in the front die the ones in the back charge up and can obliterate any kinds of defences quite easy. Like Kuvasz said, the solution to turtling enemies is to expand and starve them to death. You can just mass an army out of his base and don't engage till he decides to get out where you, having more bases and production can just overpower him and then kick his arse when his attack fails... Don't forget to upgrade while building an army and expanding to gain an even greater advantage, since you'll have a great resource advantage... Btw, great way to post(hint at recent chaosknight posts ), if you need any specific help with reps or practice just add a rep here or your bnet id and people around will add more tips...
Thanks for the reply only been playing for about a week and sc2 is pretty different to any other rts i have played but then it has been years. After being devastated by mutas and cloaked banshees today i've begun to realize how important air support really is and voids have been awesome after that so thanks guys. btw for future reference how easy is it to upload a replay, im assuming there is something in the forums so i'll go have a poke around.
Just press the "Go Advanced" button beside the quick reply one, and scroll down to manage attachments, you can attach replays and other small files up to a limited size according to their type(Info in a popup window)... It's easy as pie (Actually easier since π=Σ8/[(4n+1)(4n+3), n>=0 )...
He turtles on an island after you take out his bases on the mainland expand and contain...park Voids and Phoenixes (and some observers) around his base to keep him from expanding out and then build Carriers and just chew him up... He will either run out of money or won't be able to rebuild his units fast enough and you'll eventually overrun him.
