Uhhhh EXE, Not to be a butthole, but SC2 didnt even come out yet, so why would you worry about port forwarding yet? Only reason it was a deal on regular SC/BW was cuase Routers were changing, atleast thats all I know. You wont know for sure until SC2 is out.
Because if its needed in sc2, then i must know how to do it. And why not figure this out before sc2 hits the streets. Yes that should answer your question, dont you think?
But no one even knows the protocol that SC2 will be using. So no one can even know for sure. You cant solve a problem unless it arises XD
ok, well im just asking if someone knows anything. And if they dont know anything and tell me they dont know anything then they have answered my question from topic...
I'd expect that you have to forward ports to host a game. But that's about it. People will only be able to join if you forward the ports required (currently unknown).
1. Of course you will have to forward at least one port. Whether SC2 will work similar to SC1 regarding the number of required ports, nobody knows that yet, obviously. 2. Sniper I'd suggest putting 'imo' when you make such statements. For one, you obviously don't know anything about SC1 hosting. Secondly, you are wrong, and it's better to be wrong and have an 'imo' in your post than not have it
The reason you had to port forward in the original Starcraft is that Blizzard did not make the game with modern networking in mind. It is highly unlikely that port forwarding will be something that we need to manually worry about for Starcraft II.
I agree with ninerman here. Most modern games already have software that allows them to tunnel on a specific port. Now, this doesn't always work perfectly and sometimes you still have to open ports but I would assume in the case of a developer of Blizzard's ability we'll have smooth sailing for creating matches.
just look at Wc3, and then think of SC2 as WC3 but without any of WC3's problems and better essentially...no you probably wont
Forward 6112 (might as well to TCP and UDP for the heck of it) and I'm sure you won't have a problem. SC and WC3 both use that, of course things can change but I wouldn't be surprised if it was still 6112. For normal play I don't see why you would have to forward a port anyways, there are just certain situations where it is necessary.
