Well, when I first played Starcraft I didn't touch the speed options so it was on normal which seemed ok at the time but once I started playing with others I realized everyone plays on fastest so I adapted. Now if I see Starcraft on normal speed its like so laggy. It looks like Blizzard noted this and have made the speed look fine to play with on normal for sc2 but I'm still not sure what speed I'll play at first. Also fastest on sc2 seem real intense and fun so I might go straight into the game on fastest speed. Heres fastest speed for the people who haven't recognised it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dqx9mm3WBj4 And all the other videos you've seen was on normal speed.
Re: What play speed will you play Starcraft 2 on? If they fix the speeds by making them work at the same FPS rate then I would go as low as normal speed. I don't know anything about animation but I can imagine the moves being tied to a set number of frames, in which case I'd want a smooth 25-30 FPS at normal speed and have faster speeds skip movement frames if it looks ok. This video on the fastest speed just looks like a mess, especially with all the SC1 sounds put in randomly (wtf is up with that?). It looks/sounds too cluttered for me, so normal speed where you can micro much better sounds promising.
Re: What play speed will you play Starcraft 2 on? Real games will be a lot more fast-paced than even these videos (not in action speed, but in the amount of stuff going on at one time). It's just like in SC1: everything looks insane unless you're the one playing. I am pretty sure SC2 won't have the framerate problem SC1 had with lower speed settings. It's a lot easier to smooth things out when working with 3D. The SC1 sounds are in there because the fully SC2 soundset hadn't been developed at the time the videos were taken. They're used as placeholders.
Re: What play speed will you play Starcraft 2 on? I know the voices are nowhere near finished along with unit portraits but you can hear Protoss voices as well as Terran ones, which means they are just edited there, they couldn't have been in-game sounds. Which makes the crazy amount of unit sounds all the more insane. After what you said I think I can safely vote Normal
Re: What play speed will you play Starcraft 2 on? Well, I think I may just play normal in campain mode but the rest it depends on what the majority of people are using which looks like fastest at the moment, cuz I wouldn't wanna get used to normal if everyone used fastest. Also training on fastest means you'll do better on normal.
Re: What play speed will you play Starcraft 2 on? I'll play fastest speed. I lay that in most of my games simply becuase I don't like waiting for my buildings to be built to start producing units or having to wait for my unit's build time. I prefer fast action and it helps me practice for playing with others if they use a slower setting.
Re: What play speed will you play Starcraft 2 on? I'll play fastest all the way. I played fastest on WC2, Starcraft, and warcraft III. SC2 will be played on fastest as soon as i get it.
Re: What play speed will you play Starcraft 2 on? If sc2 was to make its current fastest speed the normal speed would you play the faster fastest?
Re: What play speed will you play Starcraft 2 on? BTW I think this will be the fastest, because anything faster than that would make the game like a fast playing movie. I don't like the idea, but they shouldn't give an option for the "slowest" gameplay. In SC I tried it once, and.. it is like a slow slideshow.
Re: What play speed will you play Starcraft 2 on? I might put it on slow sometimes to bathe my self in the rich motion/graphics
Re: What play speed will you play Starcraft 2 on? I will play on fastest. If I play through the entire campaign on normal, what will happen when I feel ready for B-net? I would get PWND, that's what!
Re: What play speed will you play Starcraft 2 on? So you're actually saying that you only pick fastest to follow the herd, right?
Re: What play speed will you play Starcraft 2 on? Not only. Also because it's slow as it is. On normal, it takes 3 seconds for a Siege Tank to siege! The pain!
