I'm a big fan of poker and I often play with my friends or even family.. and we always play both Hold'em and regular poker.I like the diversity and I find both (I mean, the 2 most popular ones) ways of playing it very fun.

However, I've noticed that every time I see poker on TV, it's ALWAYS hold'em. On CGTV, it's ALWAYS Hold'em, I saw an ad for a movie about poker that is coming soon, and they play Hold'em... have not seen the lastest James Bond (Casino Royale) but I know they play poker in it.. I bet they play Texas Hold'em. (am i rit?) I was watching a cartoon with 90% of the jokes are about sex.. and they were playing poker at some point, hold'em, of course.

what's wrong with texas hold'em's popularity? is it going to be the new "standard" of poker?

    What do you guys think?

I think it's fun. It relies more on luck, so if there's a way good player, all the others won't get pwned.

And yes, they play Hold'Em in Casino Royale.

There is at least as much luck in hold'em as in 5 card draw, I'm assuming your talking about 5 card draw, because 7 card stud is also very common.

Also, they do show other types of poker on TV, its just that hold'em is the most common. I've seen Omaha, Razz and stud played on TV.

I'm not really sure why hold'em is so common on TV. I know its fun to play, at least I think it is. Maybe 5 card draw just wouldn't be as entertaining on TV but I'm not sure why it wouldn't be. Maybe its just the fact that you have to keep track of some many cards. If you have 5 people playing in the same hand, you would have to keep track of 25 different hands at once. Also, I guess there is alot less betting in 5 card draw. You bet when the hand is dealt and after the draw. Another reason may be that I don't think you can have more that 5 people at a table. Every person gets 5 cards and they could each draw 5 cards so that would mean 5 people could go through 50 cards in one hand. In hold'em you usually have about 9 people at a table.

and I bet Mr. Bond had the straight flush...

If such hands were coming at the same table at the same time, I bet everyone in the casino would be going crazy.

Sorry Fenix but Texas Holdem format poker is the card game that relies absolute least in luck. It is 80% skill and 20% luck. I've been playing the game many years and many other seasoned players will tell you the same thing. Such a fun game :D

Well, Hold'Em is much easier to play and requires more luck than skill.
