I grew up with Pokemon, I know all the generations, and I've recently started playing the Gameboy games again.

Buuuut... I'm thinking it's spiraling downward, a bit like Sonic is.

First Generation: The original 150 (151 for any of you that are all like, Mew can be counted too). Red/Blue/Yellow games, or Fire Red/Leaf Green if that's how you learned about the original 150.
Second Generation: The extra what, 50 or so they added? The best generation in my opinion, with all the newer things. Gold/Silver/Crystal games.
Third Generation: Another 100 Pokemon were added, some features from GSC missing, but tonnes added. Equal to 2nd Gen because of the jump to Gameboy Advance, meaning prettier. Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald games.
Fourth Generation: Another batch added, what was it? 60 - 100 Pokemon added? Things brought back from GSC, and apparently connected to Johto and I believe no mention of the Hoenn region (Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald). This one was great, but I don't know... left a bit of a bad taste in my mouth. Diamond/Pearl/Upcoming Platinum games.

Just type out your own observations if you want.

both the second and third generation had a lot of cool pokemon, and if you took all those and made a single generation it'd be as cool as the first

fourth gen really has no good new pokemon

The thing that irks me the most about the fourth generation is all the new evolutions.

Second Generation added like... four or five new evolutions, and a few baby evolutions.

Third Generation was just all new Pokemon, which made it really good.

Fourth Generation added probably... as much evolved forms as new Pokemon?

It's as if they weren't happy with keeping some the way they are, and proceeded to overdo the evolutions.

Not only that, they tried to 4th Gen them too much, instead of keeping old forms more like the generation they were in.

Seriously. The Fourth Generation doesn't have many good looking Pokemon.

    *Gasp*! LIES!!!

not counting the third game of each series, I say gold is best, then diamond, red, and ruby is last.

As for sonic, I only had the SA1 and 2 games, but Sonic Unleashed looks excellent for the 360/PS3 though the Wii version is lacking. I'm hoping Sonic and the Black Knight will be good.

The new Eevee evolutions were a funny treat, because we were all wondering what each type would look like as an Eevee.

Plus tying it in a bit more with Johto, what with Umbreon and Espeon. Now Leafeon and Glaceon.

And it you want to get pickier, as in 2nd Gen, one type had the advantage over the other.

    Dark (Umbreon) against Psychic (Espeon).
    Ice (Glaceon) against Grass (Leafeon).

Thus, ruby/saphire/emerald would have been better if they had new eevee forms. Need new eevee forms! Not until all types have been conquered will eevee be satisfied!

    >:O

That'd be one hell of a sig to make with my current image type.

Missing types: Rock, Ground, Flying, Dragon, Poison, Ghost, Steel, Bug, Fighting.

    Right?

And the Third Generation climbed the cool factor with only new Pokemon, no new evolved forms, which reminded me a lot like the First Generation.

Granted those were the first Pokemon, but there was no nearby Johto.

Much like Hoenn was all on its own.

Pokemon became height of epicness back when I was in 7th grade..

I used to play it for hours, made parents spend way too much money on the cards as well.

I liked Red, Blue&Green the most.

@Ste: Some cards are still worth cash, if you have any left you should try and sell them ;)

Yellow was the first one I owned by myself. First game was Silver but both Kurai and me shared it.

I remember always training my pikachu to get it to love me :D
I miss the days of that inocence, playing for hours when my dad wasn't having me help put up walls in the basement. :(

Sign me up fo' dat shiznit.

I'd say the Pokemon franchise peaked at hthe Third generation (Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald). I agree with what Willy said about the evolutionsin 4th; the originals look cool, why do they need to evolve more? That, and the fact that the 4th generation pokemon just look too alien. At least most of the pokemon in previous generations bore resemblence to something real (squirttle, furret, etc), but now we have freakish pokemon like Exploud and that other pokemon that looks like a squat purple Easter Island head. They might as well start watching some episodes of Digimon if they want more ideas :arghh:
