Edit; Hey guys I really appreciate all the feedback thnx...anyway so out of all of my towers what should i do? which is best in your opinion? tower 1 - currently using n runs best so far vista pro 64bit 2.08 amd xp 3200 1791mb memory (3 slots) 512mb agp tower 2 - doesnt run as well or good at all too slow since its only 1.5gb of memory which makes me realize that if i get an xtra 1gb of memory it should run way better on this n tower1 http://www.fryssupport.net/gq5090.cfm windows 7 pro 64bit 3.0 ghz overclocked... 1.5gb memory (2slots) 512mb agp laptop- hp dv9700 display not working been using it on s-video the lag is a little bit more tolerable then tower 1 but then again i dont think it can go to its potential on s-video.. windows 7 pro 64bit 2.00ghz 2gb memory 128mb shared video or this which i still need help on -------------------------------------- tower 4 - havent got it to work http://www.fryssupport.net/fm7640.cfm my bios doesnt display at boot, i think i installed all the jumpers right theres no beeping, i tried my agp n onboard video, also reseted/cleared the bios, i did a test by incorrectly puttin on the agp n there was no beep, so could it mean the bios is not on but then again at first i had the cmos pin at 2 n 3 n it would make a beep so right now the cmos is at 1&2 though n no beep, everything turns on, could it be i need a diff battery, i also notice the old keyboard doesnt turn on since i tried turning on the cap lock light... any help would b appreciated ECS 865G-M 2gb of memory (4 slots) Dual Drr intel pentium 4 hyper thread tech 3.0ghz ati radeon x1300/x1550 (512mb agp) may i say i know nothing of this whole frys tower my friend gave it to me n told me they told him he needs a 20$ part, the tower came with no cmos battery or pin.. im using my pins from my other tower wait could it b the memory does all of it have to be dual because it omly came w 2 dual 256mb each then i added my 1gb n 512mb ddr2's ------------------------ ill post a vid up 2moro to show you guys how it runs on tower 1, i just think it could be better if it had 2.5gb....
On your desktop, you'll need a better graphics card and CPU. Neither meet minimum specs. Your laptop won't be able to play the game because the graphics card isn't good enough.
His desktop does meet minimum specs. That said, it still probably won't run well. "Windowed" mode should always run slower with any game. In some cases, likely because of SCII copy protection, windowed mode can run faster in SCII.
I put everything on low. It runs faster if you don't have an amazing computer . And it's probably a good idea to upgrade your graphics card and xtra ram. It kinda does better with disc. If you need more help then let me know
It might work quite well on the desktop computerm if you upgrade your video card to a Radeon HD 3860 oder 4670. Twhose were the latest cards produced for the AGP slot. The CPU is still a problem, but there is no faster CPU for your "ancient" Socket-A system.
Yeah. I am sure you COULD get the game to run on the 3200, but it will be painful. AGP is just a pain the butt, and I know from personally experience when I migrated from my Athlon 2000+ system, to my Socket 939 Operton 170. I tracked down the elusive ASRock 939Dual-SATA2, which was the only motherboard released with ALi's full speed AGP port and PCIe 16X chipset(others had AGP, but not FULL SPEED). Using this motherboard, I was able to slowly migrate to newer equipment, while keeping my AGP graphics cards (cause I was BROKE). Problem is, finding this board in working order is next to impossible because it was only manufactured for 2 months, before nVidia bought ALi and stopped production on the chipset. I bought mine used for $150, and this was in 2007! And it was worth it in 2007, but now... your better off building an entirely new machine.
thnx for the advice i already rebuilt my old computer today with windows 7 g4 bit but i couldnt seem to install the wireless card i had, i installed the pci modem but the again i just remembered that the lan was fried so im using this smc usb ethernet thing...OH AND FOR some reason my proccessor comes out to 2.52
Minimum spec is a 2.6GHz processor and an ATI 9800 Pro or better, meaning his components are indeed below the minimum spec. Not saying it won't work (as some people seem to have it working on integrated graphics) but def below specs.
I believe the X1300 performs roughly on par with the 9800 Pro. The 2.6GHz requirement is for Pentium 4 and I think AMD might be ahead clock for clock during that generation so it's possible even a 2.0GHz AMD would meet the minimum requirements.
The Athlon 3200+ is indeed equivalent to a Pentium 3.0Ghz. I don't see the CPU being an issue (as the system requirements say, Pentium 2.6Ghz or Athlon XP equivalent (Athlon XP 2600+ in that case). The Athlon XP's were AMD's first processors to use PR/equivalency ratings, where the model number is supposed to demonstrate its performance vs its Pentium equivalent. This method is now the industry standard. Don't worry about the actual clock rating of the CPU. He still stands a chance with the right video card.
hey guys my other frys comp gq5090 didnt run sc2 as well as my other tower, the 1.5gb memory couldnt run as the other comp 1791mb, so im certain that its a low memory issue, well now im tryn to rebuild this http://www.fryssupport.net/fm7640.cfm my bios doesnt display at boot, i think i installed all the jumpers right theres no beeping, i tried my agp n onboard video, also reseted/cleared the bios, i did a test by incorrectly puttin on the agp n there was no beep, so could it mean the bios is not on but then again at first i had the cmos pin at 2 n 3 n it would make a beep so right now the cmos is at 1&2 though n no beep, everything turns on, could it be i need a diff battery, i also notice the old keyboard doesnt turn on since i tried turning on the cap lock light... any help would b appreciated ECS 865G-M 2gb of memory intel pentium 4 hyper thread tech 3.0ghz ati radeon x1300/x1550 (512mb agp) may i say i know nothing of this whole frys tower my friend gave it to me n told me they told him he needs a 20$ part, the tower came with no cmos battery or pin.. im using my pins from my other tower wait could it b the memory does all of it have to be dual because it omly came w 2 dual 256mb each then i added my 1gb n 512mb ddr2's
Sorry to say but the whole system is pretty bad. PC's so old, though, and I don't think it's worth spending money on anymore. Just salvage whatever you can (case, power supply, hard drive, optical drive, etc) and keep on the lookout for a cheap motherboard/CPU combo from Fry's. Last May, I was able to get Biostar G41-M7 + Celeron E3300 combo for $40 before rebate. It's not a powerhouse but it's still better than what you have.
i was think bout buying a motherboard n building it myself but i would also need a high en graphics card minium should be 380$ for everything, id rather buy a built desktop that has a lot of memory capacity n then jus get a good pci video or get a laptop...since everything is mobile now a days i jus checked ur motherboard out its not bad even it only has 2 ddr slots, i hope u have 8gb n a good graphics card
Nah. If you're just aiming for medium settings on SC2, even a $150~200 budget would be enough with careful shopping given you already have the rest of the system at your disposal. Really didn't have a use for it when I bought, it was just so darned cheap. Currently using it as a testbed. Even if I weren't, why the heck would I spend $300 on RAM and another $200~300 on the GPU when I paid just $40 total for the motherboard and processor? Combo deals like that are perfect for basic desktop builds - net surfers whose most difficult task is playing Flash games. Add in a $50~75 video card for some minor gaming. It's certainly not something you want to waste a Radeon HD 5970 on. Even overclocked, the 1MB cache is just too much of a bottleneck.
