In starcraft the player was the Executor, Cerebrate and Magistrate. By making the character so broad and making the player be this character it was personalizing the missions.

In starcraft 2 the player will control fleshed out pre-defined characters such as Executor Selenis and directly Jim Raynor.

Which type of storytelling do you prefer?

I kinda like being in the game in directly sorta. Like i rather be a character in the game then a unknown character that may or may not exist.

    Other:

I want the player to be their own character, like Spore, WoW, etc., when you can make your own character, and name him. It allows the player to connect with their game and express their thoughts.

    (until the Spore human genitalia)

BTW, did you know, that in StarCraft Vanilla, you were Artanis?

And, relating to this, I also think we should have more custom building thingys (in melee, when you click and it becomes a Adujuntant, Overmind/Cerebrate, Aldaris/Executor).

I prefer the way it was in starcraft, where you were the cerebrate or executor (the magistrate was pretty meh though).

I knew you were Artanis, but you don't know that until broodwar when your the new executor.

I agree we should have some more racial protraits.

I like the SC2 style better. Gives you a better feeling that your actually in the game.

I think the other way makes you feel like you're in a game more.

I'd like to make my own character in the game, it'd be more personalizing than being preset like selenis or raynor.
plus you should be able to use it in multiplayer IF they added it.

Now it sounds like we're getting into Hero character territory, not player character territory. There's a difference in how they immerse the player, I think.

  10. I'm glad we get to be an identifiable character. For example, Jim Raynor or a main character that is Jim Raynor's commander. I don't want to again be simply known as "that commander that wtfpwned everyone in the last game but got killed by some little Zerg base overrunning in this game". So, I prefer that option.

I'd rather be a spectator, be it a minor character, Magistrate, Executor, nameless Cerebrate, or just watching things play out.

If I wanted to be involved with things, I'll play Diablo or WoW.

I think it would be cool to be a person in the game like when you enter a map there you are as a person like being a marine in the terran section a zealot or cerebrate (or even a hydralisk though that wouldn't happen).

I liked about Starcraft, you technically were a character, though you didn't have any choices on what to do, but you were there, I liked that, you were like 4th quiet and underrated commander that always gets overlooked, but apparently is the real military genius.

The way its done now though I suppose it makes more sense to simply make you the main character, but I do hope they tell us what the fates of our SC1 characters was.

It doesn't make that much of a difference if you become the main character or your a nameless commander and stuff :/
