Photon Cannon in the artwork trailer

Have you guys noticed that the cannon in the artwork trailer is a Photon Cannon, not Phase Cannon? I think Blizzard changed it later.
Sorry if there is an other thread about this, I didn't found it.

 

yep they supposedly got rid of it and replaced it with the phase cannon but the recent interview shows that one of the buildings gives you the ability to warp in a photon cannon

 

I wonder which one goes pew pew pew pew pew, and which one goes *Rat a tat tat*

 

This only reinforces my idea that the Phase Cannon is an upgrade.

 

in one of the Q & A's, im pretty sure karune said that photon cannons are completly gone, and there are only phase cannons now.

 

nope, there is no photon cannon. it's gone. They said it in an interview batch.

 

The Photon Cannon probably failed the "boot camp" as the Protoss have extensively retooled their current war machines to reflect the ideas of mobility and deployment (From what we have seen thus far.)

 

I agree with ImaGiNe. But I do hope that the Phase Cannon is just as good as a Photon Cannon was in SC original. In other words, I hope that they don't sacrifice hit points and/or attack damage for mobility. The Photon Cannon was frail enough in the original, we don't need it to become any frailer.

 

hmm, isnt a phase cannon only a upgraded photon cannon?

 

it probably started as an upgrade, but the animation for photon cannon wasn't as good as phase cannon. they might have relocation as an upgraded ability, hopefully meaning that phase cannons are photon cannons.

 

There's alot of stuff in Starcraft artwork. In the Colossus picture, there's a Corsair in the background and a Dragoon on the ground. And we know both of these units are not going to be in Starcraft II. Blizzard pretty much shows artists a picture of a new unit and says fill in the background with Starcraft looking units. Artwork shoundn't be taken too seriously.

 

Does any one agree with me in that the phase cannon's animation while it's shooting, looks weaker than in the original SC. Where is the power?The big photon boom. :-\

 

yah i notice that. the phase canon shoots water balls. hahah.

i hope they change it and make it look more powerful. why does it have to look like an energy sphere? is it just because the canons in starcraft 1 looks like it? lame. we are in starcraft 2, change the attack of phase canon please, maybe a chain lightning or something will do.

 

haha, as much as i would love a lightning cannon, i would hope that that would be purely cosmetic, and not actually act like chain lightning.

 

that would make some sence though, seeing high temps cast psi lightning.

im going to be a hero soon and i have low power level. =\
well i deserved it, i dont usually post helpful and great ideas etc anyway. lol

yah phase canon should change. the look of the canon and attack looks the same as the original. i mean come on, units changes(warp rays etc.) why not a simple defensive structures like the phase canons?

 

haha i went into being a hero with a low power level too. mostly because i like to violently argue with people. oops.

Oddly enough, there was a screenshot of the photon cannon on the top of this website just back... Atleast I was sure it was... looked like one, with the Crystal in the center and all.. and not some floating ball thing... but if they scrapped it whatever.

 

yes, the photon cannons were shown in the original gameplay vid and several screenshots, before being replaced by the phase cannons.
