When a phoenix overloads, it does damage to all nearby units. My question is: Is this phase shot damage equal to the damage done when not in overload mode? Or is the phase shot strength only a fraction of the original shot?

to clarify (using my own lingo):

phase shot - single shot in overload mode
original shot - single shot when NOT in overload mode

I think it's it's the same damage. Like switching a machine gun from burst to full auto type thing.

if that's the case, then any doubts I had about the phoenix are gone.

Yeah, it's pretty cool. If you micro it and cycle the Overload and cooldown, that's a pretty potent force.

do you know if overload damages ground targets, and for that matter, does the phoenix when not in overload mode?

The phoenix is an air-only unit to the best of my knowledge.

I think it can attack air and ground with its normal attack but only air units with overload. it wouln't make much sense if the basic air unit could only attack one type of target

Well, I'm also basing my knowledge on older info probably. I never got the memo about the Tempest not being included. I personally had thought it was a cool unit.

Then you'd have the Tempest vs ground, and the Phoenix vs air. So I don't know the current situation.

yea, the tempest is now the carrier and the pheonix can attack air and ground in normal mode, but overload only affects air.

i thought the tempest looked a bit like the Andromeda from the show with the same name.

on the sc2 website it says, and i quote "The twin ion blaster armament of a phoenix is highly suited to air-to-air combat and can also be used for strafing light ground targets." It just doesn't mention anything about overload attacking specifically air targets, but on further thought i think its safe to assume what DontHate said.

Yes, b0urne is correct. You could think of the Phoenix in terms of attack ablitiy as a scout with a overload ability.

well... it would probably die. i don't think pheonix's can attack cloaked units with overload if it can't see the cloaked unit. tha'ts kinda imba.

Dunno if the overload ability does the same as the regular shot except basically in rabid fire mode, I would assume each shot is equal to one shot from the Phoenix in normal mode. However, at the same instance I would also have to say it might be slightly more powerful in each shot. This is a one shot or nothing thing.

Detectors though it would hit. All Air detectors that aren't cloaked. So, Overload and whatever the name of the Science Vessel Clone is.

The only differences between the Tempest and the Carrier are the color, size, and attack-drone types. The ships use the same models and have the same fighting style....
