Pearce Says Fourth Race Possible in Expansion

  In another statement released to VG247, Blizzard big man Frank Pearce suggested that a fourth race might be forthcoming in a future StarCraft 2 expansion.    We don’t have the resources or time to add a fourth race to the launch of StarCraft II, but I’m sure in the event that we decide to do an expansion set it’s a feature that’ll come up for discussion.   When asked why there wasn't already a fourth race in StarCraft 2; "We talked about the possibility of a fourth race early on, but we felt like we had a finite amount of great ideas and wanted to make sure we focused all the cool, best ideas on the existing three races rather than diluting those ideas across four races."   While this shouldn't be enough to get your blood pumping just yet, it is an indicating of Blizzard's intent after release. It would seem that Blizzard does indeed plan very seriously on an expansion for StarCraft 2. Whether or not it will actually contain a fourth race remains to be seen.   Source: VG247

Wow, I never expected them to even consider adding a fourth race, not until SC4 at least.

 

Please Blizzard! No!

If anything I think this should come in a second expansions pack ...

 

Fourth race or not i am pleased great news in my opinion

 

This has been my theory since day one!

An expansion with a new race has made almost too much sense. I can't see that the game would be easy to balance with all new units for each race, so this really would make alot of sense, and add alot of variety.

 

I still have a feeling we'll see some units from the 4th race in StarCraft 2, even if they aren't a playable race. They're being very secretive about it... makes you wonder how much we'll see.

 

I just hope its not a hybrid race like they hinted at in SC1. It should be a completely new and original race with a
totally unique playing style.

I was hoping for a 4th race during SC2's announcement. To my disappointment, they said only 3 races. But then, they said they want to make the 3 races even more unique and distinctive and I was sold.

If Blizzard is actually making a 4th race, I fully support it. Although they have to make the 4th race as distinctive and unique compared to the other 3 races.

 

no! blizzard should throw in as much as they can in SCII. I hate expansions. But then again that would delay the release big time.

No lance, they should balance time to release, the length of the story, and new mechanics. Expansions is the way to do this.

I fully support a fourth race. Maybe the Xelnaga, or another race from a different galaxy.

 

Great news ! Finally, a fourth playable race for the history of Starcraft !

But for the expansion set of SC2 .... When ? 10 more years again ???

 

No offence but why is this news? There was nothing confirmed, just that it would be discussed.

Was there any doubt that there would (or most likely) be an expansion? Or possibly have a 4th race?

Personally hope it doesn't. It's taken them forever just to develop and balance the existing three.

like i said a 4th race.

its nothing else but either the xelnaga or ued. yes ued. the moment blizzard said the ued left their true weapons at home got me idea that the ued shouldn't be just another terran faction but should be considered as a new powerful race.

its about time. and i say 2 years after sc2 the expansion will be release.

 

Thats not another race. That would just be humans with a different arsenal.

 

yes they are humans but they are not the terran. it was a mistake bringing them up already in broodwar with terran units and buildings, lazy blizzard. well they will have a "completely" different arsenal.

i think they should have new infantries not marines, like maybe enforcers with lighter armors. They have air bases and have the drop and build mechanic in building units etc. from my ued concept race. lol.

 

Still the human race zeratul.

 

well it doesn't necessarily mean that a new playable race/group/team/etc, should completely be a new unique race. With just new unique units and mechanics the ued even tho human can still be a playable new "insert the right name here (not race term)".
