    No, this only means that you won't need the disc in the drive to play. The CD key is still there and will be checked whenever you log into Battle.net.

    Nice patch Blizzard, very handy indeed.

    LOL I just realised that the install.exe file is the largest of all. So it's like creating an image file of the disc and mounting it... big wow. If it was just a small file saying yeah original disc and everything then it would've made a lot more sense.

    Er... hate to break it to you but if it's struggling to read the disc then chances are you can't copy the Install.exe file either.

    ps where can I get the patch? I logged into B.net and it didn't say anything... and google didn't help.

    If that download link does not provide the patch for you. Try logging into the USEAST Battle.net gateway! The patch download doesn't appear on USWEST for the time being and I am not sure about the other gateways, but give USEAST a try.

    EDIT -

    Beware that by patching at USEAST, you will not be able to visit USWEST because of the application verification error. I believe this is due to USWEST remaining on the 1.15.1 patch.

    I've been there already and there's only a 1.151 upgrade patch. I don't know if that means it upgrades 1.151 versions or it upgrades to 1.151.

    I'll just check USEAST for now because I logged into Europe previously.

    edit: no I won't check that because I don't want to be greeted with the errors Imagine mentioned

    I had no-cd already :p No Zerg mineral hack fix. Why Blizzard, why? How much MB that StarCraft.mpq has?

    This smells like internet provided starcraft. Who knows maybe SC2 will come with a "free" SC+SC:BW version included? But on the other hand they could sell that as Bundle or collectors edition...

    Or they just wanted to keep SC "alive" at least untill SC2 is out.

    I did everything it told me to do, but the game still wont work without a CD. I have the patch and I tripple checked to make sure i coppied the right file but it still doesnt work.

    I renamed the file BroodWar.mpq Do i have to do it with regular starcraft too in order for it too work?

    Depends on what you want to play. Did you remember to set the Hide extensions for known types thing?

    Well being in the west serving seeing as we don't have this yet I'm not to much worried about trying to get it to work, I use poweriso anyway :p makes life easy
