I'm old enough to know better, but young enough to not care.

Sup? Welcome to the forums. Read the rules pl0x. I hate banning new users.

    Two things.

    1. Not everyone knows what plox means. I know I'm kind of ruining the fun here but SJ is for these kinds of things, not the intro board.

    2. I think I know this guy. Welcome :D

You could take the word 'pl0x' out of the sentence and it would still make perfect sense, it would just be a firmer fashion of saying it. Didn't wanna seem like a douche.

    Not necessarily.

If I said 'Read the rules.', that would've been a hard finish. Adding something, anything really, makes it a soft finish, adding flexibility to the concept.

Just for the sake of illustration: Read the rules plonker. Softening at the end if you don't know what it means, harsh request if you do. With plox it's the other way round, but the point is the same ;)

I don't see how 'pl0x' makes it harsher?

If someone doesn't know what it means (personally I learnt it only a couple of months ago) then the person can either take it positively, negatively, or disregard it altogether, in which case they only get "read the rules", which, as you've said, is a bit harsh. That's a 66.66'% chance of your post being interpreted as harsh.

The case is further made worse in your post with parts like not caring and the mentioning of banning, regardless of your feelings towards it or the context... the words themselves aren't the nicest things to see in your own intro thread. The authoritative "old enough" projects a patronising attitude to link up with the previously mentioned aspects.

The final, and arguably the most influential and contributing factor, is your intimidating signature, which reeks of power and law enforcement, as well as representing the stringent punishment to be given out in case of rule breach.

Crash course then huh. Imma teach him a few new words in just a second anyway. Learning new words is fun, so calm down Vaszy.

You know this guy? As in, real life know him?

    Hallo stalker.
