So how are Protoss meant to take out mass battlecruisers? (Note this is more of a problem in 3x or 4x). Isnt the only counter we have charged void rays? And battlecruisers arent really something you want to charge up on... Oh and BCs obliterate stalkers unfortunately.
Void Rays eat battle cruisers, Against armored targets Stage 1: 5(+1) dmg / 0.6sec = 8.33 dps (+1.67 per upgrade) Stage 2: 5(+1) dmg / 0.6sec = 8.33 dps (+1.67 per upgrade) Stage 3: 25(+3) dmg / 0.6sec = 41.67 dps (+5.00 per upgrade) IF you can get the right numbers and charge, also yamato cannons kill them. If you have the time and the economy you should pump out void rays and support them with blink stalkers, that way the BCs fall either way and the terran picks his poison when he decides what to kill. High Templars with feedback can do a ton of damage, but you need something to do the death blow because feedback will not kill them all the way, HT with void ray or HT with blink stalker can work.
Void rays are the answer, but it's still rather difficult because yamato cannon can one-shot a void ray. To counteract this, use sentries to guardian shield and make void ray illusions to tank yamato shots, or use high templar to feedback all the battlecruisers before they can yamato.
I feel like feedback and then a mix of void rays and phoenixes will do the job. Feedback for a start to avoid yamatos and soften the BCs(they can take up to 250 damage per feedback leaving them as low as 300 hp, though don't count on getting so lucky. 400 would be a safe bet for average). Send in a small wave of phoenixes to absorb some damage and right after the void rays. If there's destructible rocks or debris nearby(those thingies that block choke points) use the rays to charge up on them and rush them straight in. Keep in mind that you always want to focus target the cruisers and not attack move as with every kill you'll soften the incoming damage by a ton and last longer to take them out.
Feedback+void ray is the only true hard counter for protoss. Sentrys hallucinating archons is probably easy too, because by default the archons range is shorter, therefor they get closer and battlecruisers are likely to target those hallucinations first. Stalkers, blink back the injured ones. This is the reason they are nerfing cattlebruiser air to ground damage.
Phoenix if you have a few star gates, but honestly it takes quite a few (like 6) to even take out 2 or 3. If not, blink stalkers with sentry shields and a few upgrade and you should be fine. Void ray is what Blizzard said to counter bc, this might not always work though.
No, phoenixes do NOT work. 1 battlecruiser will beat 3 phonixes (same cost, actually the phoenixes cost more) because the battlecruisers high base armor reduces the phoenix damage from 10 to 4. Maybe if you had +2 air weapons or something, but if the terran counters by getting air armor then it will never work.
IMHO, I think if they have the time to go up until having BC, you should already have enough stalkers to deal with it.. going for BC takes quite a while, the best thing to do is to not let them stack BCs..
Mmm, i wonder if deploying a Mothership might be able to assist in things. I think they give ample time to start a charge up right? :S
Only success against BC's I have had was with mixed unit compositions, if you dont already have a large air force yourself. Thats the way it is for most tier 3 uber units I would say though
@Calerous: the mothership will go down fast since the BC will shoot the MS anw.. but if you really want to try, you can go for vortex-ing their force into half while you pound the other half of the force. I'm againts vortexing the whole army though...
Mmm...true. I feel that a couple of shots from the Yamato Cannon would probably do the MS in really quickly. And i thought you can't vortex BCs in because they're massive units. :S
Thats probably the best unit to use it against is the massive ones, aka most expensive . I agree with cries_two never vortex everything, just part of the army or the counter units to whatever you brought to the party.
