I just realized this but, in the lores, wasn't it always the overlord who were usually the ones that carried the other breeds of Zergs in space? Now that the ability is taken away, I don't think it fits in with the lore anymore. As for the Nydus worm, I personally see it only as a more specialized Nydus Canal, I cant really imagine it actually carrying units in space.
What do you mean by "the ability is taken away"? Did I miss something? Do you mean that the overlords are no more the unit carriers of the zergs?
Nydus worms transport the Zerg now, not overlords. As for the lore, they'll just slap an "evolved" tag on the Zerg and everything is settled
^I thought so as well... But, definately, stamping "this was changed due to evolution for the betterment of Zergkind" in lore will make these problems go away
wow, thats a lot of fud there... evolution... well, i guess instead of storing units, it stores creep now.
Well, it has been four years since the events of Broodwar, so Blizzard can just say that the overlord evolved to better suite sighting and other stuff and the Nydus canal evolved into a unit...
it werent the overlords that tranported them, they're transports never appeared in game, the overlords were just in-atmosphere transports
and the Behemoths aka "the largest space faring creatures in the chartered galaxy". They are mentioned in the manual and in one of the novels.
In the novels, Kerrigan's overlords still transport troops. (They used one for that purpose in Shadow Hunters.) I dunno about FTL travel. Maybe the behemoths can do that.
I'm sure the overlords still transport through space. its that they found a different use for them on the planets and the evolved nydus worm is a better use of transport imo. -Zerks
Starcraft's lore hasn't been consistent. The books have protoss ground units cutting Devourers in half, turret missiles taking out hundreds of ground troops, and humans joining the Khala. The size of battlecruisers and whether they've shields varies wildly.
Can't that be explained by all the various models there are? Or is it in some instance the same class of BC varying in size/shields?
It'd be a stretch. Terrans have shield-tech or they don't. Since shields are supposed to be a defining trait of Protoss I attribute it to a non-cannon author mistake. If memory serves, the biggest size given BCs was miles. There could be larger-hull versions of BCs in the setting though, you're right.
