I'm all for the Nydus Warren. Overlords get torn up by anti-air. I take advantage of the fog of war and pop in a worm. If the overlord dies, at least you don't lose other units. I was just wondering - which drop do you prefer as Zerg?
Prefer the same. The upgrade for Overlord speed and transport totals 300 mins and vespene a piece. That could be 3 more mutalisks!
i agree that nydus worm is better, because it generates initial creep for you, and you can reinforce continuously. However in diamond and platinum league, people always see my nydus, a drop has a better success rate for me. but it comes down to this: if you are trying to harass his base and take out his workers and tech buildings... use a drop, if you are trying to counter attack... nydus works better since they cannot defend. when you go for the ovl drop, send some empty overlords first with the full ones behind, use the empties to get aggro as you come in.
you need to have your macro up to par, as in you can freely build extra overlords, cuz you dont want to be supply blocked after the drop lol. you should always reinforce your drop with speed-lings.
one way i find effective (even in platinum) is that I harrass with just 2-3 roaches on their expansion or the other end of the base, then while they draw their entire army to chase/kill my roaches, I spawn a nydus in their base and they will barely notice. LOL
after seeing this thread I got the nydus worm for the first/second time today, in a 2v2 and 3v3 respectively, and I gotta say, I'm liking it. The fact that they all link up and its not a single tunnel is pretty badass. problem, though... I went straight for the nydus worm and banes/speedlings to fill it with, and fell behind in supporting my team as I waited for the gas that I needed. 100 for zerg speed, 150 for bane speed, 100 for lair, 200 for nydus warren, 100 for the worm (650 total, PLUS 25 per baneling, so over 800 total) as I'm trying to do an early game rush. Didn't work... lost both games because my enemy already had their army... in my base. So you can't rely on these types of things. I need to learn to incorporate them into my regular play.
I tend to use it whenever the front door is blocked ( against Terran) or if I'v scouted and noticed they have a empty patch of base in the back. Doesn't always work but its a good way throw them off. I also always try going to their worker line.
