What kind of substance do y'all think that the "minerals" are made of. I haven't seen it anywhere, it always seems referred to as just "minerals".

So what do you think it is? What is the most reasonable explanation of it? And is the Protoss using that exact same thing for their buildings (the crystal-like stuff that protrudes from some of their buildings)?

    Discuss!

Do you mean minerals? Because there are such things as crystals, like the Khaydarin one, etc.

yes, I meant the minerals, the same one that the Terrans use to create huge metallic monsters and that Zergs use to create insectoid creatures. I don't know how it is possible ....I have thought about this question several times in the past. Never mind.

SOGEKING, what are you talking about? I'm the one who asked the question xD
Did you ask the same question in a different thread?

And yes, I meant the minerals (edited the OP from "crystals" to "minerals")

StarCraft is a lightly-developed universe. I doubt even Blizzard knows.

It's probably an ore (chemically, a salt) of various metals. You can smelt the metals out. I suspect it contains calcium (since zerg use it for their bones) and copper (for that color). It may also contain gold (high-yield minerals only) - but while that makes sense in terms of money-making, it's not directly militarily useful.

Other substances get mined in the StarCraft universe as well, such as uranium. Oddly enough, you can make a nuke in-game using just minerals and vespene (which makes no sense). It's an example of Gameplay and Storyline Segregation.

A magical substance extracted from an employee's arse :)
I would love to read Blizzard's explanation though. They can account for practically anything in retrospect.

Yeah, I nominate Dustin Browder for the demo.

"Oh yeah, minerals is a new and very powerful compound found only in select parts of the galaxy, making the astronauts highly incentivized to collect it for a terrible amount of income. It's easier to utilize than steel, but easier for the enemy AS WELL!"

Oops ! I made a mistake. :D In fact in writing "I meant" I was thinking 'he meant' (he = you) and I accidently wrote "I meant".
I warn you, I make some mistakes like this a lot of times. ;)

And yes, just minerals and gas to create everything in this game is weird. This stays a game. I don't know the chemical composition of minerals and I don't know how we could know this. Vespene gas is radioactive. I know it is radioactive just in reading the Brood War manual. Indeed in this manual we learned that the Ultralisks developed a more powerful carapace and accelerated their speed because of a long exposition to the radioactive (it was written 'radioactive') Vespene gas inside the Ultralisk Cavern that provoked their evolution. So I can also imagine that Terran create nukes from this radioactive resource.

I hate to burst everyone's bubble, but there is nothing weird about minerals being in crystal form.

Now, the weird thing about SC minerals is that they seem to be composed of lots of different kinds of minerals in one coherent structure. It's not totally realistic, but it isn't very magical either.
