    HEY GUISE D:

Anyway..I have been fired from work. I'm so happy cause now I can have a self-fabricated one month vacacion AND I was payed a nice sum (about 10.000 pesos which is like.. uhm.. 3.000 dollars)

Anyway, I'd like to have a nice little thread here to see if you guys could name me a few good titles ranging from say.. 1994-2004 (because the computer I'm currently using can't play modern games)
You know, mention those that left a mark on you, or those you think are really good. I don't mind the graphics, I just wanna have some fun and get to know these old titles that sometimes one might miss because you're playing something else.

I'll start bringing 2 titles to the spotlight.

    1- Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines

Fantastic game. Based on the PnP game 'World of Darkness'. The game takes place on modern times, and gives us a very realistic and modern view of vampires.
The game is pretty dark, and can be quite gruesome at parts, but If you don't mind some blood here and there this game is totally worth it.
Here is a video with.. some dialogue and stuff, just watch It to see the graphics and whatnot. It might be slightly spoilerish so you might wanna skip it :p
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mfBdZ8ICWBM

The replayability btw is huge. There are if Im not mistaken 7 different clans (a.k.a classes), and 3 different political standpoints you can take in the game. You can choose to follow the path of the Camarilla, Anarchs or the ..... (won't spoil it for ya)

And that, as they say, is that :p

    2- Gothic 2

Im playing this one right now. This is an open ended RPG, meaning there is a LOT to do, and at first the game seems pointless... just like, say, Morrowind.
Although It has its similarities to Elder Scrolls 3, this one imo has a MUCH better and very well driven storyline, and this is important because it gives you a sense of purpose, while at the same tame you can tackle many subquests and subplots that not only are a lot of fun but also extend playtime.
Anyway, graphics are ok.. for '02, now they seem kinda outdated.. but gameplay rocks. And the battlesystem might be hard at the beginning, but then you'll get used to it and it rocks.

    Here's a vid with some gameplay: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f2z8uLrRTus&feature=related

Unreal Tournament: Game of the Year edition. One of the best shooters to date (provided you're not looking for an immersive story based game) and has enough mods/maps/mutators to keep you entertained for a while. And doesn't need emulators or anything :p

    Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver

All come to mind to some of my favorite older games. There are some old side scrollers I use to play on my old PC back in 1993 that were a blast that I can't remember the name of.

Doom, Heretic, Hexen - you can find "upgrades" for these with better resolution and textures, even if you don't mind old graphics it plays much better with those.

Nox - isometric view RPG with skill based combat instead of numbers deciding wether you hit something or not. Short campaigns, but it's one of my top favourites of all times.

Populous 3: The Beginning - my favourite RTS EVER. Only a few units and buildings but a lot of spells for your shaman, half of which can permamently change the landscape.

The Neverhood - it's made of clay, duh

Baldur's Gate and Planescape: Torment - didn't play the first one and not much of the second, but calssics are classics

    For emulators....

Starfox 64: Simple but incredibly fun gameplay, lots of replay value in choosing different paths that will take you through different levels to beat the game, and trying to beat your old scores.

Perfect Dark (N64): The successor to Goldeneye, with an amazing variety of weapons, and dare I say the best multiplayer experience to grace the N64, play with up to four humans and twelve bots (called sims), with a wide variety of sim AI types to choose from ranging from the basic easy/medium/hard to ones with specialized roles like the revenge sim who will hunt down the person who killed him, pacifist sim who will try to disarm everyone, judge sim who will try to even the scales by going after the winner, and even the coward sim who will run away in fear until he gets a better weapon than you. Plenty of fun with just the single player and bots.

Advance Wars (GBA): Wonderful series of turn based strategy games, with awesome combat animations to add a little action to the fights. Easy to get into even if you're not big on more complicated strategy games (like me) and still fun even if you are.

Any mario game ever: There's a reason Nintendo has been so successful with their flagship franchise.

    For PC games...

Half Life 1: One of the best single player experiences to grace the first person shooter genre, and while the actual multiplayer component sucks, you gain access to an amazing selection of modifications that stand out as their own standalone games. Here are some of the best and here's a giant list of most of them.

Halo PC: Also one of the best single player experiences to grace the first person shooter genre, but this time the multiplayer component is amazing as well. It also has a large community that makes new and amazing multiplayer maps for the for the free expansion pack, Halo: Custom Edition, that facilitates the use of user created maps.

Half Life 2: Basically everything I said about Half Life 1 is also true for this game, the single player can run pretty well on dated PCs but a lot of the good mods probably won't. Here are some mods.

Starcraft / Warcraft 3 (though you probably know this already): If you like RTS games, these two still hold strong. They also have amazing map editors that will let you do almost anything in a custom map so people who maybe aren't so big on RTS games (like me) can still find fun maps to play, most of them have some kind of rpg elements or are based on tower defense gameplay. I'm 20, I've owned starcraft since I was 12, and I still play it sometimes.

For me these same some of the old games I thought were ace at the time:

    Get Force Gemeni (N64)
A shooting game. A little cartoonish but easy in parts and bloody hard in other parts and 3 characters to control and lots of places to explore. Well worth looking into and I loved it.

    Perfect Dark (N64)
One of the many mission completing first person shooters. But one of the best in my opinion. The only thing I didn't like about this game was in the multiplayer there was no option to have a lives game. Where each person/bot had a set number of lives and last one standing was the winner. Kind of disappointed me at the time But otherwise a good game. And very very hard on the games hard mode.

    Metroid Prime (Gamecube)
A shooting/adventure hybrid. With a nice difficulty curve, and hard mode is really for the pros. You really feel like you are Samus (main character) when you play this. It's part's 2 and 3 in the trilogy are good but I think the first one is the best of them all.

    Terranigma (Super Nintendo)
A top down RPG game like the old school Zeldas. It's about a boy with his stick for a weapon how he helps the planet Earth to evolve after all the living creatures on it vanish afer he opens a certain box. For me the best parts of this game is the music and the storyline. The final parts on the game after you finish it is one of the sadest parts in any video games I've played. So if you're into old school RPG's this one is a must.

Master Of Orion 2 (Mac and PC)
Civisilation 2 in space of sorts mixed with the final space phase of Spore. Well in a way. But it's much better then both in my opinion. It's a turn based like Civ 2 but instead of cities you take over planets. I think it's by far the best of the 3 Master of Orion games released. And for me I think it has the best graphics of any game of it's time. Well equal to Starcraft. MOO 2 was a 1996 game though.

Point and Click Games (Mac and PC):
Indiana Jones And the Fate Of Atlantis
The Secret Of Monkey Island (the good colour graphics version)
The Secret Of Monkey Island 2
The Secret Of Monkey Island 3
    Simon The Sorcerer
These to me are the best of the 90's point and click era of games. They require more brain power and thinking to solve then button pressing skills. And only use game guides if you really get stuck as discovering what to do can really make you feel good. "oh wow I did that".

    Tyrian/Tyrian 2000 (Mac and PC)
A birds eye space plane shoot em up. A dos game and for it's time really good graphics and lots of action. Really worth looking into for fans of the genre. Not really that hard though unless you play through with a POS weapon or play on suicide or Lord Of The Game difficulties. Still don't let that detract you from it. it's a good little game for a time.

    Majora's Mask (N64)
A often forgotten Zelda game. But my favourite one. Sure the game is light on dungeon crawling. But the little of it there it is some of the hardest in the entire Zelda series. And apart from this the whole game takes place in 3 days. A concept unique so far to the series. And if you do not beat the game in the allocated 3 days, them game over you loose. But you do get the opportunity really early on to warp back to day one as often as you like so you can and have to play the 3 days over and over. And depending on what you do on each 3 day run through different things happen to the towns folk. Their movements at certain times of the day are important too. So all in all a really good Zelda game with an emphasis on the main town and it's people mostly than dungeon crawling mostly. Well worth playing for any Zelda fan.

Star Fox 64 (Or Lylat Wars in the world that is not the US) (N64)
As said above a great game. The only thing is playing the same single player game gets a little boring but in short bursts (one play through in a sitting) it's very good. And trying to earn all the medals on normal and hard modes in quite challenging.

I will list some more later when I can think of them.

I'm not fan of the genre, but Tyrian 2000 is awesome. I love the whole shop thing for upgrades and some of the humor is brilliant. Esp the carrot ship - the best edible craft ever :D

As for Master of Orion, I've seen it once (not sure which part) and the battles looked horribly boring. One ship shoots. bang. another one shoots. bang. third one shoots... only there were tens/hundreds of them in a single battle ffs!
On a second thought, it was years ago (ten or more) so maybe I have it wrong ^^

Oh man, Jet Force Gemini, I forgot about that game and it was one of my favorites on the N64. I should still have the cartridge for it too with my N64. Metroid Prime (the first one on Gamecube) is great but I consider it to be too recent to be considered an old goodie.

I played a bit of Terranigma and I thought it was pretty fun just never got too far into it to give a real opinion on it.

    Super Metroid>Metroid Prime.

2D Metriods are usually funner to play imo
