I was wondering about the tactics, which we can use to surprise the enemy. So here are some of my ideas:

    Phase cannons, mothership

In a late game you could easily block the enemies path by this tactic. you will need a mothersip with the ability to cloack buildings, a probe and some earlier built phase cannons. (In energy form).
So you bring your mothership near your enemies base carefully, to a place where the defence line is weak. The probe would build up one or two pylons in the cover of the motherships cloack, and bring there the phase cannons. Maybe with support units, so that you can hold the line after the enemy spots your forward base. If you suceeded, you will have a nice, powerful base where you can build gateways and confuse the enemy.

    High templars force field

If the enemy army is much bigger, you wouldn't have any chance to win, only if you are a bit tricky. You will need 6- 7 templars, (in the front of your units) and ranged attackers - Immortals, Stalkers ect. When the enemy is enclosing, you must create force fields in a line before your units, forcing the meele to move to the edges of your wall. This way you gain time, to kill them and when they get to the edge, you will still be in the better position you can kill the arriving units one by one.

    Confusing

At one side of the enemy base, bring some phase prisms, and make sure the enemy spots them. At the other side of the base- far from the spotted ones, hide some other phase prism, filled with your forces.
You have set up the trap- deploy the empty lure prisms, and start to warp some cheap infantry. If the enemy catches the bait, he/she will regroup most of the mobile defensive unitsto prevent the fake attack. When you feel the defence is the weakest, order your transports to the base, and kill the probes, scv-s etc.. After the enemy will find out what you have planned, you can take out the core of the base, and continue the attack on the sides..

That is all I got now. Maybe they are obvious, but for me they weren't easy to find out :)
I hope you will like it

In order to a Assault a Thor Position, create some stalkers and use them to continually blink behind the thor making the thor rotate around to attack them then simply blink back behind them doing damage as the Thor turns, this will leave your stalkers nice and undamaged and the thor dead.

    Defensive

    Beam me up, Scotty!
A good defence against a mass of zerglings or marines is to create a cannon line that is backed up with Colossi though if you have Colossi chances are your enemy has more then just zerglings.

Ok I will just improve a little on the Defensive strategy by Saradin and also combine it with one I have been making on my own time (hope you don't mind much just giving you an idea I have 4 your strategy database) here it is:

    WHY WONT THEY DIE!?!
A good defence against a mass of zerglings/marines/or anything else your enemys can throw at you, is to create a cannon line that is backed up with Colossi and a line of Stalkers right behind the Colossi and when you think your units are geting to packed together and want to survive a lot longer bring in a Phase Prism and deploy its energy mode and set the cannons to energy mode and Blink the Stalkers in front of the cannons while they and the Colossi move backwards. Slowly Blink the Stalkers backwards if they lose to much health or numbers behind the phase cannons which have just materialized. Keep doing this as to take down many more units than your units worth (and if the number and force of the enemys may seem daunting) survive it with your forces intact. (Also if you like when you bring the Phase Prism in you can bring in reinforcments through the 'warp in' ability and also the fact that the Phase Prism is also a tranport unit this can become an almost impossible or extreamly difficult defence to overcome with several Warpgates but this calls for a lot of microing and people may need to practice this strategy several times to get the hand of it and may take several days to master because this is a plan that can go very BAD if you do not micro this efficiently and effectivly!

EDIT: just added a few words I missed in between sentinces, no big deal.

But say you where the Protoss against a zerg you had the same respective buildings on a flat straight foreward platform it al depends on how you use it I.E. i would (protoss) blink behind the from lines with all my stalkers and take out some "artillery" id send in one TA (twilight Archon) to take out as many zerglings with some cover from some zealots, with some heavey cover from immortals by now all my stalkers are dead but i have taken out a good chunk of the zergs defence leaving thier heavy hitters in the background i would have my immortals to run past the zealots and kill off all the remnants if the immortals die then send in some zealots.

I'm sorry to say this won't work as stalkers have a cooldown of about 5 seconds on their blink ability, which is more than enough time for the thor to turn around, and moving speed of the stalkers is definitely slower than the turning speed of the thor. So it wouldn't work.

there are few holes in this defence say if i was terran and you tried that tactic on me i would just i would have atleast some sort of observer or sight to see your units and then i would, while your still preparing your base i would send some seige out or atleast patrol an area although it is very good by then we would have expanded enough to see when you tried to come foreward and also by then you would need your mother ship for assaults more than anything else

The mothership is only necesarry to cover the buildings, and the phase cannons is their energy form, and as long as I know, terran doesn't have any moving detectors, so you will see only a mothership closing if you play terran. By the way you have to be careful with the protoss, not to reach the sight of a radar tower, but if I remember right the radar tower is also visible for the enemies after upgraded, so it is not a big deal.
Also if you are making some fake attacks, at other expansions, the player will concentrate on those a bit.

Actually, if the terran will be able to spot the buildings too, the tactic isn't good. You're right, but taking risks may worth the expense.

Ok about the mothership. It is good againt the Terrans yes but it is even BETTER against the zerg because lets say you use timebomb in a bottle cap were a ton of zerglings are trying to swarm your defencive line not only does timebomb sow projectiles but it also greatly reduces the speed of units as well (air units are undecided but ground for shure). And the Mothership fires missiles with attack of 40+ and eight each round and it has a cool down of about 3 seaconds and each missile hits a different zerg unit depending upon its amount of health untill it is killed so the Mothership used wisely is extreamly effective againt Zerg with all its abilitys and massive suppressive fire it rains down upon its enemys.

Yes, but I think the Zerg will be able to counter an MS attack, if not, than it will be imbalanced

Hmm...yes these could work. The mothership building-cloak could be very annoying for players without moving detectors. Using that in combination with defence buildings that move could be very affective way of sieging the enemy base. I like the other two as well.

I would get some stalkers and DT's against ground. If they had a lot of... SIege tanks, let's say, I'd quickly blink my stalkers into the minimum range of the Siege tanks, then blink out when they unsiege. Also, if it's not siege tanks, just distract with stalkers.

    I got one

Rush to stalkers and harras the enemy, he will try and play a little defence here and there, keep him pushed into his base while expanding. Once u have summoned up enough money start building air and make a tone of warp rays. Send the remaining stalkers into his expansions or points not near his base. once hes not looking attack his main with the warp rays :)

Hmm well thats an noob tactic (don't argue you know it). The reason why it is a noob tactic is that it has no back up at all. Warp Rays take up a lot of squad cap and what you are talking about is pretty much depleating all your other forces by leaving it unbalanced and if he uses the Repulse tactic that I made up some time ago and hopefully for all you Protoss and Terran players out there remember it because it is the best start you could possibly ever hope for. You would get pwned really really badly. You should use you units more sparingly and always have 3 good back-up plans and after a long time of playing you will make back-up plans almost sub-consciencly. I will start a new topic on Protoss starting strategies.

Mass Warp Rays wouldn't work. They aren't the most durable units out there, and against Marines/Hydras, they wouldn't go very far. Don't get me wrong, alot of Marines would get killed, but in the end it would hrt you worse than it would him.

I didn't say I'm only ganna build mass warp rays after i reach them i said there going to be main unit used. Getting units up until that point will be upgraded to there fullest like the zealot or immortals but the them is base destruction and harassment. I'll harass while making warp rays with out using them until theres one to many. This shouldn't be a hard strategy as long as your harassment is gong fair or well. If u keep an army of warp rays hidden until the final attack will he have the correct units to counter, I don't think so. Also if your harassing your keeping a constant eye on the enemy so you should see what he is going to do. A lot of later tier units are heave armor so why not get a heavy armor destroyer??? if things arnt working out you should know this long before you spend too much money on the wrong unit during stage the harassment. The only reason you should fail is if things go bad and his defence is so good he traps your men and destroys your troops every time while he's maintaining other bases. If u can keep some one from expanding or slow them down if your unable to remove his expansion while having a stable economy of your own anything is possible..... I'm no noob But correct me if I'm wrong on this if some one was pushing zealot and dragoons into you enough to slow or cripple your expansions or main point of mining and just as u make a slight break though u see 10 Carriers whats your reaction going to be. "WTF he is good," thats what your really going to say. Thats what I'm aiming for. I want to make the enemy suffer slowly then show them a hopeless sight at the end. I want to crush all there hopes and prayers with an overkill Defeat.

Sorry if i come off sounding way too ruthless and mean, oh well it's a game you'll survive and move on learning from the mistakes you made.
they only take up 3 food.... u act like thats alot...

Not ruthless and mean, more just.... strange. It's a game, dude. Relax. Enjoy it. Don't make it out to be more than it is.
