Disclaimer: I am totally new to Starcraft (Yes I've been living in a cave for trhe past decade) so please keep that in mind. I have been trying to do player(Terran) vs. Zerg(A.I.) and I can't survive the 1st wave. I've tried: 1. Go straight for the Battlecruiser (well, I actually survived the 1st wave but got destroyed before I got the next Battlecruiser). 2. Build three or four bunkers and fill with marines (died first wave). 3. Go straight for Thor's (got killed even after I got two up and running). As you can see I'm TOTALLY lost on strategy. Can someone enlighten me as to a normal build sequence to defend against the zerg? I realize SC and SC2 are far more complex than "use this sequence and you will win" but surely there's a general guideline to follow to keep a player alive for a bit. I've searched online and there's surprisingly little directly on this subject. Thanks for any words of wisdom that will help this poor SC noob.
I'm new too so maybe I shouldn't be one to give advice...but. I'm playing terran as well...idk what a battlecruiser even is. For vs. the zerg marine/maurader defend and attack his villagers with reapers
These are the types of questions these forums were created for. Never mind the trolls! One of the biggest mistakes new players make is not making enough workers. Keep cranking out workers one after another the whole game. Also, two of your three strategies involved teching to high-end units. You usually don't need to do this. You want to balance making low-end units with investing in technology. As the game progresses, your army should be getting more and more advanced. But early on, marines and marauders should do just fine. The exact make up of your army will vary depending on what your opponent does. You can check various sources for which units are good against which other units. If you're losing to the AI, my gut tells me that its probably because you're not making enough workers. More workers = more money = more armies. I hope that helps.
1. Go straight for the Battlecruiser (well, I actually survived the 1st wave but got destroyed before I got the next Battlecruiser). This is bad. BCs are high tier units, you simply can't go straight for BCs and expect not to die. 2. Build three or four bunkers and fill with marines (died first wave). Learn how to create at wall at your ramp with a supply depot and Barracks - will save you tremendously. Don't build bunkers. 3. Go straight for Thor's (got killed even after I got two up and running). Same as point #1. Thor's aren't especially good vs. Zerg except for mutalisks. You should start by trying to get a mixed army of marines, marauders (2:1 or 3:1 ratio), medivacs and tanks.
as stated by the other players it's very important to keep building workers.. the best resource gathering is if you put 3 workers on each resoucrepoint (minerals/gas) if i were you i would do the 'expert terran challenge' cant recall the name but it's the challenge in the middle in the most right colum. In this challenge you learn how to efficiently gather resources, build a wall of supplydepots and barracks. it learns you the basics of a good start. hope this helps
Bunkers aren't really used much in SC, haha. They have their moments (like defending an open area). However, your main base comes with a ramp, use it Make a wall consisted of 2 supply depots and a barracks at the top of the ramp. This is a simple wall and should be the first to learn. Eventually, when you feel comfortable in future games, you can use 2 barracks/1 barracks factory (these are useful for Baneling busts).
Most maps have a small choke point that leads into your base, this is what you need to block. The current strategy is to build 2 supply depots with a barracks in between. However if you don't manage your opening build properly and quickly you may not have all three built fast enough to stop a zerg rush on a small map. On larger maps with a lot of space you should be fine. However one thing you can do to try and mess with your opponent is to scout very early sacrifice one of your first scv and send it over to their base. What this will hopefully do is make the other player think they should build defense instead of an initial rush tactic. Doesn't always work but sometimes it does. Get you a SC2 guide or find some posts in here that will explain how to run your build order for protecting against the early rush and then of couse put into practice and learn your Hot Keys. If you are click building you are already behind.
