What companies and games are big in your country? I'd imagine, say, France has smaller companies with games not prevalent outside their country. Or am I mistaken, and the game companies I know are the game companies everywhere?

I don't think there's much difference. Some franchises may be more popular than others, but the big titles are pretty much the same.
Not that I'd know what's popular with the folks around... >.>

Dunno about Holland, but pc gaming is HUGE in Germany. HUGE.

Dutch people are known to play online a lot in the office, though. Not really online gaming as a hardcore gamer would define it, though.

In Belgium we get just the best sellers. May they be just solo games, or multiplayers or massively multiplayers they have the same success than the titles in the US.
The most famous company in Europe is EA. The most famous game is The Sims 3. Now there are some places where we have some Sims 3 icons in the streets, posted by delinquents.

European titles from Ubisoft had their glory before. Did you know that Ubisoft distributed the French version of SC1 ? But Blizzard distributed Brood War.

American and Japanese ones. It helps that we speak American English (very similar to it anyway) and Japanese games tend to be adapted for the American market as well, so we get those too.

Mind you, Canada is pretty wimpy when it comes to entertainment. We have good comedy, but violence tends to be censored. (Fortunately, we're not as crazy as some countries about censorship.) I could not tell you the name of a single Canadian video game company.

Germany is nuts when it comes to blood and stuff. Hence the pc thing. Buy the game, download Amarican version, activate with bought key, no sencor, win.

The only one i know of is 2K Australia and it hardly counts. However our government has recently commited more money to boosting our gaming industry since our film industry keeps showing its not worthy of anything xD.

Though that will probally be for educational games... not that some educational games aren't masterpieces in their own right (zoombinies!)

I dug the **** out of Zombinis when I was a kid. Don't even know where It came from but It was AWESOME.

Here in Argentina, we are very 'americanized' in terms of gaming at least. So, yeah, pretty much all big titles there are big titles here, and big companies there are big companies here.
AFAIK, there are a few Argentinian game companies, but they're not very successful.

I don't think we are too different from the US of A in games. Sorry to disappoint, but i can't name a single NZ game company.

I kinda figured most would be the same, but all of them? Interesting, but kinda lame.

It's basically all the same here in Sweden too. The biggest difference is in which order the most popular games place, I guess. Sports games are less popular compared to stuff like GTA and Battlefield type of games. And WoW's way popular.

Japanese gamers tend to stick to japanese made games. I don't really know if foreign games just don't appeal to the mentality, or if it's because there are so many japanese games released every year that its just easier that way. but that's the impression I have. There are lots of games made in japan that never go outside the country but are very popular here.

Yeah, I can say it's like what GasMaskGuy said for Belgium too. Wow is very successful in here. So a lot of shops have even 50 specimen of this game. And I have not yet seen the stock hidden in the background.

When SC2 will be released I am sure thay will prepare us with advertisments and posters. I am sure we will see in each shop some 100 specimen shown.

In Serbia games are mostly bought at shops that sell pirated games for around 2$ . Our government doesn't really care about illegal downloads . And I have no idea if there is any game company.

I'm from Poland...We haven't got such companies like other countries but we can make good games ! For example Techlands famous Call Of Juarez : Bound in Blood or CD Project's Red The Witcher ! Theese are good games aren't they ? We aren't making many games but when we make them they are (almost :D ) perfect !

    Canada.

    Bioware.

    I live in Edmonton.

One of the Guitar 20 teachers at my school voice acted a few of the Volus.

Our drama department has a bunch of Mass Effect costumes from Bioware.
