Recently I have stumbled across some different genres of music. Normally I would listen to rap, but these new genres are ones such as metal, alt, rock, punk rock, etc., and Hodl Pu had gotten me into J music....

Some artist and songs I have listen to in the past 12 hours that fall into those genres are: Stand Alone by Godsmack, about ten songs by Slipknot, In the End by Linkin Park, dozens of songs by Sum41, and I think that's about it....

I made this thread because I would like some suggestions on other artist and songs that fall into those categories or songs you think that I might be interested in.

Or if you feel like it you can just tell everyone what kind of music you listen to, rather it be cultural or you just like the beat or whatever....

    Fire away commander....

Wow. All of those band are getting pretty old. They've either outlived their years or split up; I remember them being popular back in late elementary and jr. high, maybe 7-10 years ago. I never was into any of them, or the genre, but I'd say the modern equivalent is the mix of alt rock and scream-o. Red Jumpsuit Apparatus comes to mind - it's a combination of punk metal lite and heavy scream-o. I know about them because they grew up and got popular in my city when I was in high school.

Here's the only time I've liked RJA: when it was paired with a really kickass Starcraft competition intro:

Oh I have realized that they are old groups...but to me why stop listening to a specific artist just because they are old, if their music is still good then I will continue to listen to them....I never understood why people did that, stop listening to a song or a artist just because it was old....

And that band/group you named, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus...tell me a little more about them...are they still producing music...

I think you should try out Bloodhound Gang or Queens of the Stone Age. Each song has a different style to it so I'm sure there are some songs you'll end up liking. Here are to links to a song form each I enjoy.

Queens of the atone age: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HRSvhDbEmoA

    Bloodhound Gang: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dm_7rMGI_-o

Keep in mind that there songs each have a unique style so check around for what you may like.

I think that you might also like Nickelback. They have some really good songs.
Also, not really fits with the rest, everyone should have some Green Day songs. Most of their lyrics actually mean something, instead of having an endless list of songs that are all about love and stuff. Refreshing to listen to.

And about most of those bands being old: ever heard of that small band U2? Pretty old, but you might have heard of them recently. ;)

u listen to slipknot and linkin park and most hip hop? dude you remind me of me. I grew up on hip hop loverboy but past 2 years havent touched anything from it other then some underground because hip hop is definately dead and nothing like it was. Depending on your taste though, If i were you i would try these bands first:
    311
    Sublime
    Sevendust
    Gorillaz

    then maybe try:
    Killswitch Engage
    Disturbed
    Mudvayne
Ofcourse there are many many other bands, but im at work and off my head those were major bands on my playlist for quite some time that stand out for me.

I've heard a lot of these bands/artist...but I never thought to listen to them because at the point and time I was too much into rap....I'll listen to all of your suggestions...but not now because I'm doing some school work. I will most likely listen to Gorillaz first because I've heard that name a katrillion times....:D

Guns 'n Roses (Sweet Child O' Mine or Ain't it Fun)
Muse (Hysteria or Knights of Cydonia)
    The Sword (Freya)
    Pain (Shut Your Mouth)
Van Halen (Beautiful Girls or You Really Got Me)
Rob Zombie (Dragula or Feel So Numb)
    Alice Cooper (School's Out)
Sam Roberts (Them Kids or Where Have All The Good People Gone?)
System of a Down (Toxicity or Question!)

A little off topic but I just noticed that there is not a lot of women/girls nor black people playing SC, well at least not to my knowledge....

(Back on topic) Some of these bands/artist names sound weird but in this case I guess weird is good:)....I've actually heard of some of these artist but have only heard maybe one or two of their songs....My sister suggested My Chemical Romance and Fall Out Boy...so are they any good?

    Absolutely horrible overproduced mainstream drivel.

    Don't even go there.

Yeah I don't really like mainstream too much. I like to listen to songs that you wouldn't normally hear on the radio or see on tv.Of course I was still happy when Queens of the Stone Age where on all the latest Guitar Heros/Rock Bands

My Chemical Romance and Fall Out Boy.. have like 2-3 songs i actually like by them. Not liking someone because they are mainstream is kind of.. 2face? to call these bands mainstream yet listen to Guns n Roses, Ramstien, System of a Down, Rob Zombie, Queen of Stone age... arent these all mainstream bands?

And Loverboy IMO, out of that list.. system of a down and Muse are the only bands i would really recommend downloading music for. people who listen to 80's-early 90's rock have a unique taste i cant really relate to.

suggesting Rob Zombie was a major /fail. might as well put KISS or AC/DC IMO.

    ...I forgot AC/DC?

    Aw crap.

But I find the rule of music...

The less you hear about them, the better they are.

Lol it always seems that way. I know a lot of my friends that love rock, all go ga-ga over metallica. I don't see what the big deal with them is. I don't like there music and I was told I was blaspheming by saying that.

U2? Eh. Old can be good, but imo not when the band is period-pop/rock (plus Bono is a huge ****). One of my favorite musicians is pretty old. Name's Frederic Chopin.

Why is it so cool to bash Bono lately? He is just a good singer. You know how much he gives to charity? This is all caused by that south park episode. -biggest crap ever- -which was hilarious, but still...-
