With Blizzcon entering its final hours we the people of sc2 forum are now inpowered with great new info on the story line of sc2 and its about time we start talking about it: What we know: -Xel'Naga WILL be in the game in some form -Raynor and Tychus are on the same side (at least in the demo) and appears they knew each other for some time (watch the demo you will see what i mean) -Raynor still commands the Hyperion and is now labeled as an anti-dominion terrorist -Raynor's crew is near the point of mutiny beacause of lack of money. -Zeratul was injured shortly before the incounter with raynor. -kerrigan has remained on char without attacking once in the last 4 years (i smell a tech rush) -Raynor likes beer -Artantis is now ruler of all protoss and is atempting to make sure the dark and high templar nott attack each other. -a new protoss excutor named Silendas now replaces the old one. (you) -Another mengsk will be involoved in the story (forgot his name) -The story must involve some form of a cycle of sorts as zeratul references it in his dialogue in the demo and even duran references it during the dark origin dialogue. -These "artifacts" are the key to something involving "the end to everthing". Shockers: - Fenix is still dead and will not return -The characters you played in the original will not make a comingback. -Stukov is not coming back (but may do so in an expansion) Sources: http://www.sclegacy.com/index.php http://www.gamespot.com/news/6176199.html?action=convert&om_clk=latestnews&tag=latestnews;title;2 And a whole alot of other pages posted the news section. Also just to quote a small section of the gamespot article i linked: Observations: Odd very odd indeed i thought they said we were going to play as the "evil" dominion in sc2 not raynor ah well i find it an inprovment.
Y'know what, I feel some resentment about being sacked as Protoss Executor...damn them and they're Protossy ways Oh yeah, and you forgot the part where it said that Jimmy is based on the character from The Rush in the way that he's an undercover Texas cop...or was that a joke? Awww...I miss Stukov...I hope what they say is true though and that Stukov will return in the future...everyone loves the heroic Russian badass
Reading those articles really got me more excited about the single player campaign. If you can walk around the Hyperion in the Terran Campaign, then what do you think the Protoss and Zerg Campaigns will be like? Walking around on a Carrier or a Hatchery or something? That would be so cool. I can't wait for more to be revealed about single player.
Wow no one commented on how the old units will be moddable into the game! But anyway i think the protoss missions will be on the mothership (not the carrier cuz the poor thing(mothership) already got a downgrade and needs alittle cheering up). And for the zerg... well... an infested space platform
I said that before, I said I hoped they do it... now they have, and it didn't take them nearly a month to do it this time! Atleast announce it.
@ lichking, the new carrier is a reskinned tempest thats larger and has ranged, rather than melee, inteceptors. so the tempest still lives on lol.
Ok after much thinking i have come up with a storyline that i think might work with the new info: Protoss: Much has changed over the last 4 years and the protoss are now more united than ever under the watchful eye of artanis however the protoss have been stripped of all of there advanced tech since The brood war and the first few mission of there campaign are going to auir and such places to take quite raids and get as much tech as possible (there equivilent of buying tech for terrans) after this artanis and the newly formed second conclave begin ploting a return to auir and a full out mega battle over the planet. In the meantime Zeratul was the only protoss which has knowloge of the hybrids and after losing contact with artanis he takes all his remaining forces and heads on a mission to find out what Duran meant when he said "this creature is the compleation of a cycle!" and in doing so he finally ends up on a planet full a caves where several hybrid creartures are stored (remember the artwork) here he learns of the meaning of durans speach (i can not speculate of what its meaning is yet but we know that a universal cycle is nearing its end) but while doing so he is suddenly attacked by kerrigan who kills all of his remaining forces and has a 1 on 1 battle with zeratul (remember the cinematic trailer) zeratul wins and kerrigan is force to retreat but he was hurt in teh process and warps back to his ummmm... carrier. With this new knowloge he now must find his allies and warn them of the cycles compleation and the return of the Xel'naga and the first person he bumps into is raynor which we saw in the campaign demo. Remember since we still know almost nothing about the other parts of the storyline i can not make any more speculation of it as any further speculation will only be guessing with very little evidence to support my claims so i'm going to stop here and update this thread when new information that will allow me the further speculate arise.
Pretty good so far IO, but I wonder if there has been some uneasiness amongst the dark templar and templar union, as if templar are still clinging to old hates despite the necessary alliance.
Wow. I really like it actually. Good job! owerup: I especially like the part where the Protoss retake Aiur. That would be so cool for them, and it would leave them in a nice, peaceful place at the end of their campaign (hopefully). Also, the stealing tech thing would be perfect for getting new units. You would get different technology depending on which missions you do, instead of buying them, like the Terrans. I like the idea of Zeratul taking matters into his own hands and doing some investigation as well. How did Zeratul "bump" into Ranor on his own ship anyway? Ranor obviously didn't know he was on board. I guess that's what you can do when you are a Dark Templar.
Well i heard a warp in sound just before the lights began flickering in the demo so maybe thats how zeratul got on board and i thought up of a idea of how the zerg could get new units/structures: Zerg assimilate and evolve creatures of native planets right? so in the zerg campaign you might need to go around some other planets in seach of new species and add then to the swarm.
Agree. Carrier is almost removed from SC2, and the single player campaigns are probably being developed for sometime, so it could not be a Carrier, nor Warpray. So I think it will be a mothership for sure.
I think the idea of Protoss regaining lost technology by raiding Aiur (possibly ancient tombs where the Colossus sleep) is sound and I won't be surprised if it turns out to be true. I am more interested in Kerrigan's story arc though. Remember she has a score to settle with Mengsk? I bet Mengsk is creating a replacement for Kerrigan (another female Ghost) to help him control the Zerg, except the new replacement is completely under his control (or so he thought). In the end, Mengsk's plan succeeded but the replacement backstab him and take over the Zerg. The banished Kerrigan met Reynard again and they have no choice but to work together to fight against the now more brutal Zerg brood. At the end of the campaign, Kerrigan merge/absorb the replacement, regain control of the Zerg, become even more powerful and dump Reynard again (poor guy).
Oh the single player campaign demo on gamespot. And ummm who is "reynard"? Oh and i did some more speculation about the zerg: Since we don't even know what new units they have this will be short: For the last four years or so kerrigan has just been staying on char without doing anything and i think this is beacause she is still trying to figure out how duran could escape her and has searched many planets to find out however on one of the planets she found something very interesting: a hybrid on planet cave (yes thats what i'm going ot call it for now) and after examining it for some time zeratul appears on the same planet and they have their confrountation with each other. Unfortunitly i don't have enough evidence to go beyond this point.(we know very little about the zerg yet....) Terran: Mengsk has rebuild most of the domionion and (from the galaxy map in the demo) i can speculate that at least 4 systems are under his control with these folowing planets in them: Braxis system: Braxis Alpha (the planet in the back ground of the first gameplay demo), Braxis (a very familiar planet which we fought on in the past) The sara system: Mar sara (still its burned destroyed self but an artwork with a cc on it appears in the video description of mar sara so it may be used for mining or something), char sara (the same with mar sara) Red stone system: Red stone (we know nothing about this planet in detail but after a close examination of its info page in the demo i can say that it is a mining planet and you can go here to mine x amount of minerals for money so i could call it one of the side missions. Korhal: Korhal (its the domionion capital world and it has to be part of the domionion even though it wasn't shown on the map) Anyway Mengsk knows all to well that kerrigan is capable of a full out offensive that could break the domionion apart in afew weeks but hasn't for the last 4 years which has made mengsk rather scared as all atempts to see what is happening on char has failed and since mengsk has no intell on the zerg he can only try to draft as many forces as possible for a defence. However things are not going very well for mengsk as now he must deal with Raynor and try desperatly to keep the civilians calm (they must know all to well about the zerg now) as well as trying to get the domionion back up to full fighting force, whats making it even harder for him is that now the protoss are re expanding into former domionion space at the frindge colonies (the mission the presenter did in the demo was on a frindge colony with protoss on it) and thus if he wants to truly rebuild the dominion it will mean attacking the protoss outposts in the area, also mengsk's age is catching up to him (he looks much older in the artwork and has a cane) and he fears that soon he will die and this is where his son comes into the story as a possible replacement. Again i must stop here as evidence is still lacking for more.
