New races possibly blizzard?

After 10 years, you would think they might add something a little different, possibly a fourth race. They had one time for april fools day the Tauren marine, they could do a futuristic Warcraft theme where all the races in warcraft( night elves, orcs, , trolls, gnomes, blood elves, I wouldn't say humans, well because they are tarren, and ect...)joined together to fight off these other 3 races and could have a mix of protoss, zerg, and terren.

Like unholly blight for undead( instead of +movement speed and health regeneration for friendly units, it could give a small damage over time to help with defending against unfriendly units), blood elves could be a few magic dealing units(of like the dark templar but they shoot missiles from wands/canes(staffs)), Orc peons could be the workers for minerals, gas. Night elves could be the 'stealth' units, the gnomes could build all the flying machines, since they really can't fight when they are 3 feet tall(lol). Draiene could build teleportation devices of that of the protoss and zerg.

Theres more things I could list but it would go on and on and im sure y'all can add more stuff to. I'm not saying add this in the game, but im saying after 10 years blizzard hasen't came up with something, sure it may not be a warcraft type race but atleast another race to make the game more interesting and fun. More battles always is more fun.

The warcraft type race or new one that has the jack of all trades for the 3 races could be the race for people that like all 3 but can't get enough of it, who knows.

    Think about it.

  2. Additional races should be saved for StarCraft 3. There's much more uniqueness that can be added to each race and I think with two expansions the races will be pretty much perfected in terms of uniqueness when everything's said and done.

Then I would like to see additional races; not before. That would ruin much of what was great about StarCraft.

But, as far as your post, assuming that they should add races just for the hell of it is complete fail, in my opinion. I would even go so far as to say Blizzard would be less creative if they created more races because that is pretty much the easy way out (disregarding balancing). It's much harder to create ideas within the current confines of the races but still there's need for this to be done.

(NOTE: I'm taking the WarCraft 3 proposals with a grain of salt. I'm assuming they're just some asinine joke that was meant to be funny.)

I would say the exact opposite is true for most people. You can't have massive amounts of races and preserve the uniqueness of each race. There's really only one science fiction cliche that can be elaborated on and that's the mechanical AI race. But, really, that would still cross-over into the Protoss/Terran uniqueness.

I think the Hybrids should be the fourth race in StarCraft 3. Granted, that goes against the uniqueness I was talking about but the lore and the opportunity is there. I don't mentionthe Xel'Naga because, depending on what happens in StarCraft 2, they would either be too powerful or too weak. They aren't like the Undead where in the lore they're the strongest and in the multiplayer they're balanced. They're the creators of two of the races and the remnants of their technology is a major plot line in StarCraft. Sure, they got their butts kicked before but I assume they've come back better prepared.

The developers said one of the primary reasons they did not add a fourth race to begin with was because they only had a limited number of ideas and didn't want to dilute them across a new race. They have pretty much made it clear that there are going to be some Xel'naga units in the campaign, but they are not going to be a multiplayer race- probably much like the Naga in Warcraft III expansion.

All in all, I don't agree with the idea of adding a new race just because "its been 10 years and its about time they did". Starcraft is fine the way it is. You're going to wreck it trying to "fix" it.

I do think, however, that it might be funny to add some "warcraft in space" units to the campaign editor for custom games. Just keep them out of campaign and multiplayer and we're cool :)

Fitting a new race in the lore and gameplay is one thing, balancing it is another.

Starcraft is still currently the only RTS game I know where each race is independent and completely unique to one another, yet the gameplay remains very balanced. There is no race which is more powerful than the other or more used than the other because of unbalance.

When you add in a fourth race, things will get very very complicated. This is not just in terms of building completely new units, but having to drop units from the other 3 races in order to make it fully balanced. Each race already has their own speciality, with zerg being numbers, protoss being their power and terran being a little bit of both but mostly known for their incredbile defense. It's hard to fit another "unique" race in there without taking away the whole idea away of another race.

A fourth race IMO just won't work. Starcraft works like stone, paper and scissor. Each race have their own stone, paper and scissor which counters another race's stone, paper and scissor. If you throw in an extra race, then the races will either have too many stones, too many paper or too many scissors.

I believe a new race might come in Sc3, but it would be the zerg-protoss mix race or possibly the xel-naga themselves, but how that would balance is beyond.

Right now i'm already happy with sc 2 i just want them too balance and fix some things, i already love the buildings. So I seriously want it to come out already. Now a fourth race? Uh... it would pull back too much, It would be in there best interest to release a expansion for like 30 bucks and include one race a map pack and terrain. Just my opinion.

Loroes, you will actually get your wish.

StarCraft II will only have three races playable in multiplayer, but at least one NPC race (hybrids or xel'naga, likely both) will appear in the campaign.

StarCraft II's map editor is more advanced than that of Warcraft III. In Warcraft III you can create new races, including tech trees, and make them playable in UMS maps. Examples come in two forms:

    Completely new
The naga (you actually get to play them in a couple of maps in the Frozen Throne)
    The draenei (the Broken Ones)
All the NPC races in the Monolith map
The satyrs (NPC race, seen in the Illidan mission of Reign of Chaos)

    "Subraces"
    Blood elves
    High elves
Corrupted orcs (there seems to be two types)

In StarCraft II, you can even make the new race selectable (along with the standard races) in a UMS map.

  8. I agree. A new race now would be catastrophic... They've added so much new stuff that I think everyone should be happy. I do believe though, that they will add in some Xel-Nage units or the toss/zerg mix units just like they did with the dark temps in SC1.

I'm don't think we will see a complete new race in SCII but like some of you have said we might encounter Xel N'aga units which we might be able to utilize ourselves in the campaign or fight. Probably something robotic.

If they will add a new race I have a strong feeling it will be the Samoengy or the Xel N'aga but only in one of the later chapters. Or maybe there will be a *surprise* 4th chapter to SCII in which we will be able to play the new race whatever it will be.

Ok, imagine Current starcraft 2 is a very good soda you really like,
If you want more races, you add water to the soda, guess what, the soda tastes like poo and you got more of it, congrats.

If they are planning to add a new race or races, its gonna take a while to get lore and stuff up and running and then making units etc, starcraft 3 should have it :D

I agree, I think the new races should only be added in StarCraft III. But before they introduce them, I'd like there to be some closure for the Protoss, Zerg, and Terrans. Once we get a satisfying ending for the current story, then can we start on exploring the other parts of the Universe. The Universe is huge after all. I'm sure there are plenty of stories to tell within the StarCraft universe. Plenty of other aliens or races with their own histories and conflicts. Hey, they could even fit the Protoss' Dae'Uhl in there. And if Blizzard does introduce new races, I'd like all of the races in that particular game to be new. That is, no Protoss, Zerg, or Terran. The most those guys can do if they do appear is be NPCs or something, much like how the Xel'Naga are gonna be used in StarCraft II. I'd even be open to a game that has events taking place before the main storyline, with one of the races being the Kalathi.

Like some part of the idea that new races should be introduced in SC 3 (even if blizzard's president laughed at the idea of a SC 3)

But till now nor the Xel'naga nor the hybrids should be playable in multiplayer or even a race.

There are three aspects of the a rts that i can see of.

Campaign, multiplayer, and player made games

Campaign you can add what ever units and do what ever you want with the units its a story aspect of the game.

Player made games can be what eve anyone wants and anything can happen (thats how dota was created).

Now multiplayer is one of the most important aspect because its like a game of chess versus the other 2 where the balance of the game rules and thus adding a fourth race is really left to freelance or multiplayer because balancing a entirely new race would consume way too much time and can be developed later in a expansion or possible in player made games because remember units like the Marine and hydra were added to wc3.

Think about it 2 more years of wateing simply because blizz had to add a fourth race complete with their own units, building, tech style ect.

Instead of adding a fourth race, would it work if they Blizzard made a spin-off with three unique races (e.g. Kalathi, Tagal)? Though that would mean designing and balancing three brand new sets of units, structures, and abilities. Would be cool though.

    NO!

You honestly think Blizzard would do something like that to us loyal and dedicated fans?! I am appalled at this notion good sir. Get a hold of yourself, do you think the company whom we have devoted 10 full years of gaming service would betray us, the servitors of their will? I think not!

Seriously though Blizzard may have them in the single player at most because this would most likely be very hard to balance in the multi-player this late in development and if they even made a model of even a hand of a Zel'naga it would be leaked immediately and we would be very sad day for us. (by we I mean the leprechaun people)

You were all right up to this point.

And now you need a chill pill.

I would like to see more involvement of the different factions for each race. Maybe not multiplayer wise, but campaign wise I would like to see the Conclave, UED, and maybe Zasz or one of the old cerebrates return. Just to see what the old pals are up to. Other then that the only races I would like to see in Starcraft (for competely new ones.) Would be the one with the raptor heads (I cant remember what they are called), the Xel'naga, and of course the hybrids have to make an appearance or else that whole secret mission means nothing. The only way these species make it into the multiplayer is through UMS and ONLY UMS.

Some of those forces you're talking about are dead. The Conclave is dead, although if enough renegade Judicators survived, they could form a new one.

The UED remnants are still in the Sector.

Zasz is dead. Dead. DEAD. Zeratul stuck a warp blade in him, he's not coming back ever. Same with the Overmind. The only cerebrates we know that might be alive are Kerrigan's cerebrate (it was still alive at the end of Brood War and in StarCraft: Hybrid but is probably dead now) and Kaloth (probably dead now too). Daggoth is confirmed dead.

Numerous faction possibilities within lore still exist. There are probably hundreds of terran factions. There are dozens that we know of already, such as the Kel-Morian Combine and Umojan Protectorate, and many of the smaller factions would be quite non-standard (eg pirates, corporate armies, etc).

The protoss also have numerous factions, including the fanatics left behind (such as those on Jotun), remnants of the Tall'darim (the ones that didn't turn on Ulrezaj, which was about half of them IIRC). Selendis wants to return to Aiur... I bet she's secretly part of an extremist Templar faction that hates the Dark Templar, and even if she's not, I wouldn't be surprised if such a faction exists. There are numerous Dark Templar clans, not to mention Ulrezaj, who has led two Dark Templar-like groups already. Indeed, fighting between these groups will be part of the Legacy of the Void (not necessarily in-campaign fighting, but I think so).

I don't count the Shel'na Kryhas because any survivors would fold themselves into the Khalai.

The zerg have the most unity. Even so, there are obsolete barely-controlled zerg on Aiur that could completely escape Kerrigan's control.

And there's the xel'naga (they are returning) and the hybrids... there are lots of options in the campaign.

if anything i view that they already stated that the hybrids will be there in the story and so will the xel'naga, well its a good intro for a new race SC3 for Hybrids/Xel'naga would be perfect and in the end balancing always works out. there are plenty of ways to make the hybrids/xel'naga to be new and have their own style.
