Blizzard announced on Twitter today a new Infested Terran model for the Zerg Army, this things can be spawned by the Infestor and pack quite a punch.

    Enjoy,

I don't liek the unit as it stands. I agree 100% that the unit graphic is cool. But it still has the Marine suit on it. And only newly infested marines could still have the suit on. If some Zerg unit/building can make infested terrans without going up to a terran unit and infesting it, the infested unit then would have no suit on cause Zerg do not make the suit.

So from a looks point of view I like it. But from a lore point of view I do not.

yeah, it's weird that they can produce infested terrans with an exosuit without actually having to infest any terrans.

Current lore states that the Infestor literally swallows Terrans, then later expels them onto the battlefield. The story holds up given the Infestor's size relative to your average Marine, and if you think about the method used to infest Sarah Kerrigan one could go as far as to say that the Infestor is simply carrying chrysalides within itself, rather than leave them out in the open.

That being said, I still find the lore kind of shaky. I won't complain much though; I rather like having the ability to spawn four or five 80 HP Marines whenever I please.

I was gonna say that lorewise, they could be sallowed before the battle. Then I realize you hatch brand new infestors so....yeeeah.
Well, ****, it just looks cooler this way.

I've never seen any colorations between SC and war40k before (wink, wink), but these guys look a hell of a lot like Chaos Space Marines. Still looks ****ing cool though.

maybe in SC3 the zerg will have fully incorporated the terran genome, and larvae will be able to directly hatch some kind of humanoid zerg...

Maybe blizzard has updated the infested terran spawning mechanic into something more interesting. One thought is that in the game, the infestors have an ability to capture terran marines (or any terran infantry), and hold them inside a crysallis they can later place on the ground to hatch into terran marines.

Honestly though, I think blizzard should make the infestors infest any terran building like the queen did in starcraft 1 to produce the infested marines. It looks like the infestor's model has sacs in them so I think the spawn infested terran ability will be in the beta. Hopefully if it is in, Blizzard can come up with an explaination that makes sense in the real world to satisfy people who like good lore.

This is a great model. He seems like the original infested Terran from Starcraft 1. But he can't blow himself up as a suicide bomber (it would have been great especially in our current time). Now he just shoots on the enemy.
I don't want the Infestor (or Corruptor, I always confuse their names) to spawn those infested Terran from the ground. I love the original idea to infest a Barrack and to produce infested Terrans.

My understanding is that if a unit is spawned from a zerg unit then it is not infested, it is already zerg. So it's either infested terran gained during battle with its suit and armament or some hybrid without suit and only claws. The current unit under the infested terran name is a bit of both which doesn't make any sense.

I don't think Blizzard should try to make the infestation aspect of Zerg prominent in multiplayer, especially not by focusing on Terran only. If they really want to stick with it then what I'd be willing to settle with would be the following:
If any Protoss or Terran building is infested the Zerg player gains control and can produce infested Protoss/Terran for free at the cost of control only. This infested unit would be able to burrow and would have an increased line of sight, making them good at scouting. They could have a melee attack of about 5 or 10. This way they would be fairly useful, make sense lore wise, and would emphasise their infestedness by making them relatively weak.

The idea should be simple: the Infestor, when brought on the battlefield, has already swallowed marines. If you don't agree with that, then this would be an idea: when selecting the Infestor, you can build mutated humans, without exosuit, just as you built scarabs in SC1, which explode; the second part is to give the Infestor the ability to swallow marines right on the battleground. That would be fun to see. Now, these marines are the ones that shoot, and the problem is fixed.

To everyone who's complaining about the Infested Marines coming from nothing, I think that's a very narrow-minded and selective view of the game. In StarCraft, with the Terran especially, almost everything comes from nothing.

If I'm not mistaken, here's the problem.

The Hatchery spawns a Larvae, naturally, which mutates into an Infester. The Infester contains Infested Marines, which it has consumed, despite the fact that it's never actually had the opportunity to consume them in the first place.

However, if I'm not mistaken, if that's the problem, then here's another problem.

An SVC builds a Barracks, from scratch. The Barracks is able to produce Marines, which are housed inside it, despite the fact that it's never actually had the opportunity to house anyone in the first place.

Unless someone can undeniably debunk the magically spawning humans in the Barracks problem, any problem with the magically spawning Infested Marines in the Infester is entirely hypocritical. All in all, gameplay comes before lore.

there's no problem with the zerg spawning infested terrans. it's the fact that they spawn them with armor. they could be growing little human clones for all we care, that's pretty much what the zerg have done with dozens of other species already.

A SCV builds the building. Mins are melted down into neo-steel and in some cases vespene is needed as a fuel source. The marine exo suits are also neo-steel that originates from the melted down minerals. The actual human bodies that fill those suits are transported to the planet via your starting command center.

There are holes in all of that, but, I would say it's explanation enough considering...
Spoken like a true SC/Blizz fan Itza.

I wanted to post something along the lines of what Bloodhawk said. The creation of marines is well within the limits of imagination and thus doesn't cause any problems. But creating something that doesn't genuinely belong to that race, from scratch? That's just too much. And as asdf said, spitting out half-zerg marines naked is acceptable.

But there's always something being created from nothing. If humans can acceptably just appear inside buildings, I fail to see how Infested Terran can't acceptably appear inside Infesters.

Terran genuinely belong to Terran. Infested terran do not genuinely belong to Zerg.

They might reconstruct half of their DNA or something. That way Infested Terrans are not constructed from scratch, but from part of their DNA.

Terran may belong to Terran, but that doesn't stop them spontaneously generating, too.
