Hello. I´m looking for ums maps who really can improve my apm and micro skills. Guess it should be popular now when people want to get in good shape for sc2.

    Found this: http://www.entropyzero.org/MicroSkillPractice.html

But it seems those only got support for older patch versions. Anyone know where to get working versions of UMS maps who can help improve skills? 1 player support would be best.

The Impossible maps IMO help with micro and teamwork, however, the scenarios are varied and unlikely to occur in a regular game. Still, it's a good way to learn unit abilities and how to use them most effectively. Most notably would be the ghost cloak+lockdown combo or matrix+spellcasters.
However, it doesn't really help with apm.

Observer(Python Obs, Blue Sea Obs, etc) matches allow you to watch people play and see how they build thier base and armies depending on map size and opponent type(ZvZ, TvP, PvZ, TvZ), but apm and your micro isn't improved on these, that's still your job.

UMS maps aren't usually for increasing skills, more for just fun and a break from regular matches. However, to increase your skills, probably stay away from games like Storm the Fort and Tree Defence since these maps basicly have you using heros with upgrades maxing at 255 instead of 3.

The maps in the link sound interesting, too bad they don't work with current patches.

Yes UMS will decrease your skill in normal games. If you want to improve simply observe bnet matches and play against people. BWchart will help you as it shows stats of everything in the game you just played such as: APM, build rate, etc.
I will attach it to te post later if you don't have it.

BWchart? I've never heard of it.

Sadly, I'm guessing my apm is probably 45 at best, since my constant clicking later in games is countered by me almost never clicking early game. :(

I have watched hundreds of pro replays and used BWchart over a year. But I belive in what they are saying at entropyzero that you improve your skills by playing but it´s going slow. They are saying ums are: "secret for amazingly fast micro improvement." But ofcourse this is only for special made UMS maps. For example I guess that ums with speed*8 is a good improver for apm, where you should be able to really push your limit the whole game.
For those who havent seen CombatX videos I can really recomend them. Are very funny to watch and in my opinion bether then pro replays(I have seen them all: http://youtube.com/user/Wasif1112).
But my question is still: anyone know where to get good UMS maps who really improve skills.

I have a map where you choose a combination of units and fight it out over 4-5 rounds. They are all original stats with no dumb upgrades or anything.

The first time I played it I owned all competition. It felt good winning every round.

If you want to practice on the map try and catch me on useast, my username is Psionicz

    Added map as attachment.

Micro Tournament sets up common battles in normal games with balanced sides, and also some uncommon set ups. there is no support for single player, however, and you get owned if you don't know what you're doing. once you learn how to do each battle, you can then improve your regular game by utilizing what you learned. one of my most favorite battles is lurks + lings vs rines + meds + observer (basically a science vessel without energy) this battle can be accessed through the Lain micro battle package, which is the beacon to the left once you start the game.

i wouldn't reccommend random micro challenge, since most of those are uncommon, take too much time for a real match, or are impossible without a lot of mind control.

if you want to improve on unit placement, such as flanking/etc, try bounds maps. they allow you to look at a common pattern, find a way to surpass it, and then you must execute your path perfectly or you will get blown up. This is like looking at how an opponent uses his units, finding a way to flank him or to get some of his units detatched, then moving your own army around exactly right to get the maximum desired effect.

I don't know if this is the map you are looking for... But it is fun anyway! :D

It's called Micro & Macro. It's a 2vs2 where one player builds all the units and bases (macro) and the other player controlls his units. Kinda like team melee can be I guess.
As soon as the macro players build a combat unit that unit is given over to the micro player. They also added triggers to give dropships and money for upgrades, etc.

I haven't been able to get BWChart to work. How does it? It seems that most third party software has issues to begin with in that it's confusing to install and run the first time, but, after that, it's the most helpful thing in the world.

    What about any Nexus version?

If you want good replays, go watch SlayerS_Boxer (i KNOW i missed something), sAviOr, Yell0w, Bisu, Pusan, Xellos, Flash, Nada, iloveoov, Stork, etc. replays online. They are the some of the best StarCraft players. OR try to find pro replays that show the screen directly and witness the 1k+ apm per minute.

No way in hell they get above 1k. I remember hearing about someone (I think it was julyzerg) reaching 800, but I didn't consider it anything more than a myth. But yeah you're right, watching replays is good for you :D especially if it has the groupings of the player. Does anyone know how that works? Sometimes it's stored and sometimes it's not.

I'll try to find a replay or screenshot.
    I can get 1k+ APM a minute.
Easy - get a probe. Click on the screen far away to order it to move REPEATEDLY.
