Long story short, I have not been tech saavy enough to build my own computer but I really want to get into it because of the benefits. But for now I just need to know enough to upgrade my current computer. Basically my old computer died 3 years ago and I really needed a new one for school and whatnot but at the time I didn't have much money on me and just bought a dumpy $350 emachine to tide me over. I play a few games on the computer so I have upgraded the RAM and put in a graphics card which has worked well enough until now. Obviously I love SC ever since I played it first on N64 (LOOOOOOOL) and am now addicted to SC2. My computer runs SC2 on low to medium decent enough except there are times where the game freezes from 2-10 seconds at a time and bigger battles are amazingly laggy. Here are my specs from dxdiag: Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2 (2600.xpsp_sp2_qfe.070227-2300) Language: English (Regional Setting: English) System Manufacturer: Gateway System Model: W3650 BIOS: Phoenix - AwardBIOS v6.00PG Processor: Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU 440 @ 2.00GHz Memory: 2048MB RAM Page File: 1479MB used, 2458MB available Windows Dir: C:\WINDOWS DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904) DX Setup Parameters: Not found DxDiag Version: 5.03.2600.2180 32bit Unicode --------------- Display Devices --------------- Card name: NVIDIA GeForce 9400 GT Manufacturer: NVIDIA Chip type: GeForce 9400 GT DAC type: Integrated RAMDAC Device Key: Enum\PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0641&SUBSYS_C9453842&REV_A1 Display Memory: 1024.0 MB Current Mode: 1024 x 768 (32 bit) (60Hz) Monitor: Plug and Play Monitor Monitor Max Res: 1600,1200 Obviously the processor is LOL and bottlenecking everything, so I have purchased this one: http://www.amazon.com/Intel-Pentium...ref=sr_1_9?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1289855902&sr=1-9 It's a 775 just like my old processor/motherboard but I've tried to put it in and the computer lights and fan comes on but windows doesn't boot. So I read around a bit more and I don't know if my motherboard supports this processor, in fact I don't even know how to check what my motherboard is unless it's in the dx up there. I think I read something about being able to update BIOS settings or something... I hope this is enough information for someone to help, please and thanks.
stamped on the mobo should be its model name, get that and we can find out what it supports, its possible it does not support the dual core processor
Ah, got it 945GCT-M3 http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWebSite/Pr...ailID=719&DetailName=Feature&MenuID=1&LanID=0 says it supports dual core. *shrug* Thanks for the help man
Wow, that's a long story. Go here and update the BIOS: http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWebSite/Pr...ailID=719&DetailName=Feature&MenuID=1&LanID=0 Download the file from ecs, get winflash, read the tutorial and update it, should work after.
