I've been failing in the bronze league for christ's sake. I desperately need help from a good player to watch my replays. http://www.mediafire.com/?wzgsvug6exsu743 http://www.mediafire.com/?3vhat5rxtd3bhc0 http://www.mediafire.com/?agmu5x3jw53di6j Any help would not only be appreciated, it would be lauded as the greatest thing that could ever happen to me at this current moment...
Only watched the first one. So from watching the first one I noticed a few things you did wrong. First off just want to say you did pretty good in the beginning, one major thing you forgot that you always need when facing the zerg is a sensory tower. could of avoided a lot of damage with that and possibly won the game. and you need to manage your units better, at one point you had 4 roaches killing your buildings with maybe 6 marines and 3 maruaders standing aside doing nothing, by time you realized he had already destroyed like 3 supply depots and a barracks. Now im not amazing at this game either, but those are just some things I noticed. hope it helps
Wow, where to begin. I watched the second replay and its obvios your new so i wont be to hard, but man you gotta work on ure macro, at 1 point you had over 4k resorces, You also NEED to scout. When you build an expansion put some sort of defense there, some missle turrets would have made that game so much easier for you, Another thing is why didnt you build any marines, there cheap, and so effective in mass, You send about 10 tanks into battle and the rest of ure army stayed back, why? thats suicide. You started off well, but after he destroyed ure main base you seem to fall apart, Why didnt you rebuild ? I noticed you only built a third base when ure minreal lines were gone, you should have had one up and running before they ran out. Another tip, you should never get raped by cloak as terren with a command center at ure disposal, 150 resorce to never get cheesed like that is a must, get it asap next time, and use the scan to scout/reveal when nessecery. Another thing alltho in that game it wouldnt have matterd, you didnt block ure ramp well, your opponent didnt either he used about 10 supply depots, you should use 2 rax / 2 supply or 1 rax 2 supply pending on map. Another thing, upgrades, if u get a tech lab you want the 10 more hp on marines and stimpacks somtimes. All these things mean ure minrals are kept low. if you want my advice, Stick to the newb friendly start as T, mass marines/maruders/medivacs, this will help you manage ure econemy better, and give you a chance at winning.
I watched the third video that you linked, seeing as people seemed to have watched the other ones. From what I saw you did alright...ish. The first 4 or 5 minutes was alright. One thing to note however would be to rally point your units to behind your ramp block off, so that if there was early pressure then you would be much safer. You also had a lot of gas saved up, so after you'd created the first 4 or 5 marines you could have got a tech lab addon, on your first barracks and then the reactor on the 2nd like you did, so that you could create marauders. The first push that you made was obviously quite effective as he only had 1 marine up front as opposed to your 5 or 6. At that point you probably should have run into his mineral line instead of trying to kill the barracks. Alternatively, when he attacked you with his SCVs then instead of standing there, and letting them surround your units you should have backed away and attacked, backed away, attacked. Basically what is referred to as Micro. That way you would have easily killed all of his SCVs if he continued trying to kill them. Another thing that I noticed, which is a very large factor, is that you only had 11 SCVs the entire game. For full saturation of your minerals you should have 3 SCVs per patch, which usually amounts to around 2 and a half rows if you select them all, and 3 per gas. so thats around 24 SCVs and then 6 for gas. This is something that your opponent also failed on, and you would have had a greatly increased economical advantage over him. Another pointer regarding economy. Use your Orbital Command to call down Mules, they give about 120 minerals per minute if i remember correctly, which provides a big boost. As a finishing note, the thing I think that every new player has issues with is Macro, or the ability to manage your base, and your units at the same time, for example, when you were attacking his base at the start, you should have been building structures, SCVs, more marines etc etc. Which is where hotkeys come in. I would also recommend that you watch this video: -------------> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m36BSwQY0Ag <------------ and the 9 other parts, as they are very informative. You should also subscribe (free plug?) seeing as he is awesome and he does a new video almost every day.
im not a diamond player, but i like the idea of a very new player asking for help. if you give me a shor tgame( anywhere under 20 min, but less time the replay the more time i have to help you) ill post you up in my next community commentary. itll probably this weekend, but im going to UCSB for two days so it might be a while. anywho its ur choice, but plz leave the answer on my thread, which is on the 2nd page of this strat discussion, as idk if id check this again. if you dont know what community commentarys is about, watch a game or two that ive done and then u can decide.
Didn't watch the replay but based on other peoples' replies I recommend you should: - Forget about the small stuff for now, i.e. "build sensory towers", et cetera. Start with the fundamental stuff that is apparantly lacking in your gameplay, such as: - Look up a few basic build orders, choose one, and get good at repeating it without losing time (i.e. sending workers to minerals too slow, forgetting to build supply, etc). After you feel comfortable with 1, branch out into others. - Adjust the # of workers you build. It sounds like you're building too few right now. Undersaturation on your mineral line alone will set you back a lot. - Work on spending your resources. You shouldn't have so much saved up. In fact, right now aim to spend ALL your resources at all times, only saving as much as needed to build whatever you need to build next. You'll still build up some while controlling your units, but you should aim for zero expenditure right now to improve your fundamental macro economy management. - Work on using your units/game level awareness/macro, as others have stated. That kind of stuff alone probably separates out bronze from gold players. The fine counter details, how to deal with X, et cetera can come later and as a case-by-case scenario/question when you get beat and it clearly wasn't due to any of the above fundamental aspects of the game. edit: Oh, and if you can find someone who is willing to give you commentary/harrass you IN game, that would be best. If you can immediately respond when someone is telling you "you need to spend those minerals", "build more supply", "whats with those idle units", etc you can train your mind/body better on the fundamentals imo then getting feedback "after the fact". Course finding someone to do that would probably be pretty hard (nor is this an offer).
Lots of minor things you can improve, but keep in mind that doing all these minor things well will make you way better. Way more smooth in your play. So first, you built your barracks on 9. Usually when someone builds it that fast(which is very very rare) they will go for a rush. Because if you build it that fast, you are denying some scvs. Build it on 12 supply or 11. I never built my barracks on 9 or even 10 supply because its just to early. Second: NON STOP SCV PRODUCTION. It is the number 1 rule for almost every player and if it isn't then it should be. In this game there are alot of things that put together will make your skill. I will enumerate them: Micro: Managine litle details such as pulling weak units behind your army so they stay alive or shift clicking on mineral pad after starting a building. Macro: Managing bigger stuff such as: your army composition, constantly spending your money, and constantly harvesting money. Basically Macro is spending your money efficiently and of course harvesting money because without money you have nothing to spend onyour units, buildings, upgrades etc. Timing: Having good timing means having a smooth play. For example: Being smooth/having good timing is building your first barracks as efficiently as possible(not to early so you can make scv for your economy and not to late). Having good timing requires alot of practice. After playing a decent amount of games, you see that building this very early is good because you can do this and you see that building this on X supply is gonna do this and this. Having a plan; Having a plan will help you be more smooth once again because if you come in a game witohut any idea of what your gonna do well your screwed. If your a newer player, it dosen't have to be a huge plan, just: I'm gonna go marines plus maurauders is enough. Then you will be smoother because you will build the buildings and other stuff so you can get the marines and the maurauders. Later in the game, when your pretty decent at it, you will wanna have some build orders. Yu always have a build orders, but having some efficient ones will make a huge difference. If you build all your stuff at random timings, well then your not smooth, your pretty much improvising. But having a build orders such as: 10 Supply Depot 12 Barracks 13 Refinery 15 Orbital command 16 Supply Depot 18 Factory is a good start if your new to the build order world. Build orders are timings basically.
Just so you know the easiest way to get good at macro and micro is by hotkeys. For example, set your orbital command(s) to key 0. Whenever you create a new one, hit 0, then SHIFT, click on the new CC and then rebind (CTRL + 0) back to zero (that will add it to the group). Now whenever you want to build SCVs (you want it to be habitual) you just press 0 and then S. Same with barracks. Select all of them and bind to say key 9. Then you can just hit 9 and start hammering the hotkeys to produce marines and marauders. Hot keys will help you scout + macro you just have to develop the habit. Take your first SCV scout. Hotkey him to 1. Then just sit there pressing 1,1 (jumps to scout SCV's position), see how he's doing, then 0,0 make sure you have SCVs queued up to be build at the CC, then 9,9 to build ya soldiers then back to 1,1 to see how the SCV is doing. It's really hard to do at first but just keep doing it. It's like juggling you can't learn the theory and just be good. You just have to keep trying until your body and mind work it out and it becomes habitual.
Yes, and if you want to be a pro gamer, you aren't gonna be one because your a gernius, pro gamers are good because they played alot and have ambition. I bet everyone would agree with me on that point.
DO NoT BUILD SENSOR towers until mid-late game work on ur macro first get your 22 workers asap with a couple of marines build as go along THEN start pumping out units. This is the PRO way, take it from me #1 diamond baby group your army in a team (ctrl + 1) you cannot avoid this
