Okay so I thought of a new strategy for the Terrans. To give a bit of background on my RTS history I am an avid AOE player and Total war player.

Okay so I want to build a wall of command posts to block my ramp, this will prevent enemies from accessing my main base. I will lower them when i need soldiers to cross. I will do the same with forward resource gathering bases. I will defend my bases with lots of marines and marauders. i will have a mechanised army nearby to be able to respond to any threats. Any good?

Pretty general tbh, and with some inherent weaknesses, like:
vs Protoss: an attack on your front that will push you back will cause damage to your supply depots(command posts I believe you mean supply depots since they're the buildings that can be lowered) and get you supply blocked or just cause unnnessessary damage.
vs Terran: Sieging up some tanks outside your base can cause similar damage...

Also mech is generally better for defending(Tanks/Thors are awesome anti-ground/anti-air defenses but tanks are stationary and thors slow, so they're better off for a defending/turtling role) than responding to threats while marines/marauders are fast, have stim(which means they can be even faster to rush to a threat) and can be transported via medvacs fast for surgical strikes...

Try watching some matches here and see some strats people use...

Also, regarding mech play, you can take a look at these:

And look around the forum for terran strats...

    Cheers! :)

I'm sorry but that's what 99% of most Terran Players do anyway :D if by Command Posts you mean Supply Depot

Just an FYI but supply depots are somewhat "squishy". By that I mean they they'll do a good job of blocking some Lings or Lots but if a Z player has banelings I think it only takes 4 of them to take down a depot. If depots are right next to each other it's conceivable 6 or so banes will bust your door wide open.

that's why he got marine and maruader to defend them :D plus the supply depot block tactic isn't always the best approach anyway it all depends. Yes it takes 4 banelings to take it down but they will have to build 4 baneling first.... plus you need a large army to back up those baneling.

The point of the supply depot block isn't so that no army can get into your base it's simply prevents them from marching into your base.

Yea man, walling off with two supply depots and a barracks is super standard against zerg players to prevent the 6 pool rush. Against terran or protoss I would be more careful since they can get units to out range yours making the wall back fire on you.

If you are facing terran and build a wall then they can easily get siege tanks and reach your marines and marauders guarding behind the wall. That is why it would be best to get stim pack early and have them outside and rush into them before they can even get in position to attack your base.

Against protoss it is the same thing because stalkers can out range marines and marauders if i m not mistaking. It is best to build bunkers before a rush comes when facing toss anyway. So be sure to keep it open to build the bunker and scavange it once you know you will not need it.

Building a wall is great to keep out scouters and if you decide to get siege tanks to defend.

Pretty Standard tbh, but siege tanks and thors are pretty basic.

Try responding to threats and team mate emergencies with a fast moving squad of marines/medivacs/marauders.

Also, walling off is pretty much the strategy for every terran player.
