So my new computer will be arriving and I was wondering which games I should absolutely purchase. Mind you, the last game I bought was WC3 The Frozen Throne. So any game since that period can make the list.

For now the only game I'll be getting is Dragon Age. I'm somewhat confused though, when do you play the downloadable content? ie. If downloadable content #1 is for characters leveled 10-15, then what good is it if I have a lvl 15+ character?

Any other suggestions as to games I should try out? I prefer quality games gameplay wise, that I'll want to play again once finished. I'm not into Half Life, Far Cry, Doom and that kind of stuff.

    Edit: no WoW either.

Try King's Bounty: The Legend and Armored Princess.
Perhaps not a must have, but if you've ever been into Heroes of Might and Magic franchise you should like it.

Anyway, what genres are you interested in?

I'm not all too sure. The only PC games I have played thusfar is SC, Diablo and WC. Generally I like games which are not too fast paced, high replayability, RPG elements are nice. I thought about Mass Effect but I actually haven't got a clue what kind of game it is. Then there's Fallout but it doesn't really look like my cup of tea. I've also got the game Dark Mesiah here at home, haven't played it yet because my computer isn't good enough. Hopefully it'll be somewhat good.

New(ish?) games I play on a weekly basis.

    Mass Effect 1/2
    Assassin's Creed
    Oblivion
    Fallout 3
    Half Life 2 SMOD
    The Witcher
    Dragon Age
    Sins of a Solar Empire
    Mount and Blade

    Recommend all of them.

If you get Steam, you can usually get some pretty slick deals.

Also, Mass Effect is basically a space opera. Save the galaxy, meet some funky aliens, sex them, be a goody two shoes or a total douche. Fun game.

Mass effect is pretty legit... can't wait for the third :)
Fallout 3 is the most mixed game I've ever played.... sometimes I enjoy the quests and exploring other times I absolutely hate it... lol

    For PC, yes?

It's incredibly sandbox, eg: Go anywhere, do anything, and kill most anything in your way. You can enchant your weapons and armor with whatever you want, even create your own spells, buy houses, deck them out however you like, get a bevy of different mounts, become a vampire, a thief, an Arch-Mage, and a Guildmaster.

And that's the vanilla game. Oblivion is immensely moddable. The site I visit for mods has almost 20,000 mods. These are anything from retextures of existing armors, new weapons, new places to an airship under your control, complete overhauls, stuff like that.

It's prolly my first or second fave game. Vies with Assassin's Creed (gotta love parkour+killing people)

Assasins Creed should be a budget game by now right? I'll probably get it alongwith Oblivion. Hopefully these games are still available in shops and I won't have to order them online.

It must be me.... but I actually prefer having disks just in case my steam account gets hacked.

I tend to watch footages of games I'm interested in on Youtube, and that's probably how I'll decide on which games to try. For me it helps because I can sometimes spot flaws or very cool elements that help decide. The next step would probably be a demo of it, as the videos don't necessarily do justice to the game, but you get the idea.

Happened to me once. Got it back in about 2 days. Valve's pretty good about that.

The last game I bought was WC3:ROC, and that was about 4 years ago. I haven't decided yet whether to buy the TFT expansion or not. From what I've seen of it, I'm not sure I'd like it. I feel that some of the changes (like the hero shop) have spoiled the game.

But don't just buy games for the sake of it because you have a new computer. That's nothing more than an itch to spend money... and you'll regret it.

Look through some of the videos on xfire, and only buy a game if it really catches your eye. :)

If you like first person shooter games in massively multiplayer game so just buy Crysis : Warhead because there are 2 DVDs in this box : Crysis Warhead and Crysis Wars.

This is with Crysis Wars that you play massively in multiplayer.
Of course you can also do it with the original game, but .... no, you need Crysis Wars.

He said he didn't like Half Life, Far Cry and Doom so he's probably not into it either.

The only thing I don't like about steam is the downloading. Some games can take half a day. Either case; I just registered my hard copy of Napoleon Total War to my steam account.

Downloading can take a while, but the transfer is stable and (at least in my case) I can just let it run for the night.

What gets Meee more, even if it's technically not a steam thing, is the killing exchange rate between SE (Stoopid Euros) and PLN
For instance, ME2 is now 40% off and that's what I could buy a brand new game for here. Heck, not many games start at ~120pln, that'd get Meee a collector's edition in some cases :/

While I'm at it, SC2 is gonna cost 200PLN and 400 for CE. Now, 50 Euro might be the norm in EU (considering Steam prices), but here it's just ridiculous.

I've been hijacked on steam at least 3 times so I guess thats mostly why I like a physical copy.
