I recall in much earlier youtube videos, Mothership fired a nice looking missile barrage, though in beta, it is just beams? Did they completely remove the missile barrage from the protoss mothership?
I would really like the missiles back. Looked much more like the psi attack it's supposed to be, instead of random laser number 1645
+1, I have no idea why they keep dumbing down their new and interesting ideas. Units don't necessarily need to attack with a simple animation in the shortest possible way. Maybe it was changed because they wanted to get rid of the time between the commencement of the attack and the damage dealt. Maybe the behaviour of missiles is a little dodgy when out of attack range? That would explain why missile turrets shoot boring fast missiles... I can imagine a Phoenix fleeing after being attacked and the missile trying to track it down but somehow failing. Think of the SC2 tower defence game where this was actually an issue. But I doubt Blizzard wouldn't be able to fix that. But then why change it.... meh.
Yeah, it seems that Blizzard is trying to let almost all attacks hit instantly. Why should this be required? I like the idea of being able to dodge certain abilities with good micro. And again: this animation looks plain ugly. Especially since there isn't even anything visibly producing those beams. Kinda messy, to be honest. :/
Ya i liked the way it looked too they could of just made them have the same attack rate as the lasers instead of taking it out. Infact they happen to be the void rays lasers.
point defense drone is one of the only reasons to differentiate between instant-hit and missile attacks. i don't think the mothership's laser attack is that bad, but lasers on a carrier's interceptors is just weird.
well, the instant-kill-air-units spell was definitely OP, but still, planet cracker? why did they have to cut that one out... it's not like the mothership was super-fast and could get right on top of the enemy army to fry them instantly...
Well, yeah, Black Hole was seriously OP'ed, because you could instantly destroy an enemy fleet, but the Mothership is slow enough that the Planet Cracker can't annihilate anything instantly.
Think about this though back when the mothership was OP it cost a **** ton of resources to make. Its initial design was to encourage FE to build one, and a counter would be not letting your opponent do that. Cause honestly how good is a mothership by itself?
it's absolute crap by itself. heck, i'd rather they remove the attack completely and just give it more spells/abilities.
