    First my computers specs -

    quad Q6700 2.66 ghz cpu
    4 gb ram
    Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTS
    Windows 7 64bit

obviously enough muscle to run SC2

SC2 installs no problem, and updates to 1.0.1 no problem. When I go to run the game, it goes to a black screen and the mouse cursor turns into the little "thinking circle" (the equivalent of the hourglass in earlier versions of windows) for a few seconds, and then the entire computer freezes (no mouse, keyboard, anything) and I have to hold in the power button to get the computer to shut down so I can restart it.

After doing some research I found suggestions that widescreen monitors might cause issues. The posts I found said that you should edit VARIABLES.TXT located in
    c:\users\{username}\starcraft II\
problem being there isn't anything at all in that folder for me. It's totally empty.

Anyone think that maybe the reason my program is freezing is because this folder is empty? can someone post a copy of their variables.txt? Also a list of the files in your c:\users\{username}\starcraft II\ folder would be really helpful.

I've never even been able to log into the game, so I don't have a character and can't even post on the official SC2 forum :p
