I like rock and game soundtracks, not a big fan of rap though.

 

I like game sound tracks, but dislike the tetris theam, could you change the poll about that?

 

I like all, except country and trash rap coming from current MTV and pop culture. So yes 50 cent and eminem, don't like them. But I listen to others such as Bone Thugz N Harmony and Soul Position.

My playlist has a mixture of genres from Bossa Nova, Metal, Rap, and jrock.

well, the tetris theme wasnt anything serious... just added it bcuz I wanted to have an example, and thats the first I came up with xD

Metal is good music but not the best one, i like alternative more and grunge is also great. Don't like rap, other than a couple of songs that just glues to my head once in a while.

Favourites right now are Avenged Sevenfold, Foo Fighters and Korn. Also i fell the other day for the song Hold On with Neverstore feat. Lazee, dunno why but I think i heard it on MTV and then ended up listening to it several times on youtube

I like metal and I like rap, but I tend not to follow either as a genre. Instead, I hear certain musicians that I like and follow them. Thus, I like Talib Kweli, Nas, Outkast, and Beastie Boys, for instance.

I like various genres. Depends on what mood I'm in at the time. Right now I'm on a Rosetta binge and it is glorious.

I listened to Metallica alot when I was in jr. high and some in early high school, but don't like them much anymore. I still like Rage Against the Machine, Horse the Band, and At the Drive-in, which I think could all qualify for being "metal". So there's that.

As far as "rap" goes, it seems like your grasp on the genre's pretty limited. I don't listen to alot of it but some can grab my attention every now and then when it's clever. Pretty much every rap artist who works with Gorillaz is excellent and deserves attention. Also, rap remixes can be pretty fun; DMX + Ghostbusters remix is a must-listen, and I'm pretty sure qualifies as "rap".

"Rock". AC/DC blows, but I have a friend who will eternally be into all of that 80's hair/glam rock trash so I try to avoid arguments there. When I was in high school I used to say Led Zeppelin was the best band ever, which I totally disagree with now. They were catchy, and had four extremely talented musicians - and as much as I respect that (and own every album), I don't listen to them much anymore. I don't really get your seperation of "rock" and "metal", since "metal" IS "rock". So is "rap", but whatever. My guess is you define rock as any kind of music with electric guitars on overdrive, except for "metal", and I happen to like alot of that. But I dont' think they could be grouped in with the likes of AC/DC. The Arcade Fire, The Mars Volta, Minus the Bear, Radiohead, etc. They're all very unique and I'd rather not categorize them so narrowly like that.

Game soundtracks always sound uninspired to me; they're written because the musician was paid to create a few songs for a video game. How inspired would you be in that situation? I'll always feel nostalgia over some of the older (pre-FFX) Final Fantasy songs, but I wouldn't listen to them over my headphones or anything like that. There's a difference between music that works well as a piece of multimedia (ie game music) and music that was made to be heard by itself. That really famous Final Fantasy piece that every FF nerd always gawks over as being one of the best songs ever is just arpeggios. Constant arpeggio. There's nothing that incredible about it. It's like a warm-up excercise.

My favorite artists right now are Elliott Smith, The Dodos, Justice, Animal Collective, The Decemberists, Gorillaz, Panda Bear, etc. All of which don't really fit into any of those categories, I think. So to answer your question in a very roundabout way, I like music.
