Is it possible that Mengsk is a puppet like Kerrigan? I mean wouldn't it make sense that duran used Mengsk to give the final push for the glass to tip over the table?

I doubt it. The manual and the campaign all state his motivation for doing what he did. Not everything in the starcraft universe needs a puppermaster orchestrating it.

Yes but its possible that he was taunted into doing many things. I mean just think about it. Almost everything he does helps out the zerg or Duran in some way.

I think you are thinking of Dugalle.

Nothing Mengsk did helped the zerg.
Everything Dugalle did though at the advisement of Duran put the UED in a bad position however

Kerrigan was only a puppet until the overmind died. Also, mengsk was just selfish. There is no way he would go out of his way to help someone else, unless it will benefit him.

Mengsk is gonna end up killing himself off, with his selfishness. Hell, if Kerrigan get's him, than I'm right. Kerrigan is his fault.

Hell yeah, I just sat when I played the campaign. And Mengsk left Kerigan out there. Without saying anything.. He IS selfish. I don't wanna se his liar face again. Kerrigan didn't deserve such a life.
(I just read the book Liberty's Crusade and.. I still can't get over this..)

Did anyone think what Mengsk do to Kerrigan could be actually correct?i mean he doesn't want to risk too many of his people just for the heck of rescuing Kerrigan and several others that get stranded, right?btw,i think Mengsk might help Duran coz he might think Samir is the best hope against the zergs.

Um. Im just guessing at this but its most probable that Mengsk dies from either battle or natural causes. Then his son takes the throne.

He had the power to rescue her, he chose not to, for whatever reason. He had the ability to get in and rescue her before she was over run, but he abondoned her.

Nonetheless, it must be conceded that Zacron has a point. Mengsk couldn't look at Kerrigan as a friend, whether he would have liked to or not. At that point, she was a human life. And it's quite possible that he would have lost far more lives on a rescue mission that he didn't know would even work, than by pulling back. It's not pretty, but hey, it's war. It's possible that, given his options, he did manage to choose the lesser of two evils. It would be hard for us to say for sure, considering we know so little about the circumstances. If it was as easy as flying in a Dropship, that's a different story. But evac mission are rarely that simple.

Granted, none of this changes that the man is a prick. He's just a logical prick.

Kerrigan killed his Father. Its pretty obvious that he sought revenge. Unfortunately for Mengsk, he didn't anticipate her infestation and rise to power.

Exactly. But you haven't addressed the real question. If he did, indeed, do the right thing by not attempting an evac mission, what impact does the fact that he did it for the wrong reasons have on the situation?

Like if I return an empty wallet (with I.D.) specifically because I expect a reward, am I wrong? Am I more wrong than if I had just kept the empty wallet? Or is it still the right thing?

The reason I think that Mengsk had the ability to perform an evac with minimal risk is because of the reaction he got. Jimmy loved Kerrigan, but even then, the way Jimmy reacted towards Mengsk shows that this was a betrayal against Kerrigan, not Mengsk looking out for his men. At least that's my opinion.

It wasn't just Kerrigan down there. There was an entire army down there. Rescuing many people has a world of impact, many times over. Especially if there is no risk in doing so. We just have to identify if it was possible to pull it off without losing any of his own men. Darktemplol made a good point, lets look at the actual conversation.

Here Kerrigan is calmly asking for an evac, because she feels like it is possible to send one.

Here Kerrigan is wondering where the hell that evac is? Her asking this question implies that the evac is late and could have already arrived if Mengsk had just sent it.

Raynor also feels as if this is a cold betrayal.

Kerrigans only reasoning is that there is something crazy going on up above, or else the dropships would have been here a long time ago.

Maybe it would lead the zerg to the Sons of Korhal and attacked the Mengsk,Raynor and their troops?

Mengsk probably left Kerrigan, because she had started dislike Mengsks plans. Mengsk thought that he would have less problems, when Kerrigan wouldn't be disturbing.

I don't think that is the main reason, he only looked at the financial matters, and there one's life worth nothing, even if it is a great solider. It would have been risky to save Kerrigan, and pretty sure many units would have gone in the battle-and also the success is not granted.
And he was a selfish bastard either.

No I don't think cost had anything to do with it. Kerrigan had begun questioning his decisions. This way he would be rid of her before she became a threat. Obviously he had no idea she would be infested instead.

The only time you could say he was a puppet was when Kerrigan used him (along with Raynor and Fenix) to defeat the UED. But even then he only did it for his own selfish gains.
