Melee Possible For Combat?

    For anyone who was a DoW fan, ( dark crusade, soulstorm + etc. ) wouldn't you love it if certain units were to do those finisher style moves in SC2? THAT WOULD BE SICK!!

    Some units already do finishing move.
    Hydralisk wraps itself on a marine like a snake and gives them tha kiss of death.
    zealot screams out in triumph before finishing some1 off. They scream out "MY LIFE FOR HIRE!! I BETTER GET PAID FOR THIS!!"
    and marauder says "eat my lead b**tch" before finishing someone off.

    ...

    oh and the mother ship blows up and warps back into time and kills the unit 100 more times. Then it says "hurrhurrhurrhurr"

    Finishing moves would only distract the combat. I would just stick to dialogue.

    Well theres the issue that while my thor took 20 seconds to rip off a hydralisks head it would be unable to do anything else...and DOW didn't handle it very well( i think they just made the unit invulnerable? )

    They did make them invulnerable, BUT..BUT... play the game over to verify this they never took longer than two to three seconds to complete it. So they couldn't cause damage to any other units in this "executioner state" if you will.

    Melee animations: yes, if it fits. The hydra for instance has very big claws which work well as an alternative for the spines.

    Finishing moves: no.

    It's as simple as that ^

    Seriously though.
    SC is very competitive, and is supposed to be easily watchable, and events and statuses easily readable. Units suddenly turning temp-invulnerable is just horrible, they must remain killable.

    It's for the same reason (among others) units just 'pop out' of buildings, instead of, say tanks slowly rolling out of a Factory. Because then there would be this middle zone where the unit is visible, but not killable.

    Units either existing or not, with no special rules that are hard to read (Stasis Fields is for instance very easy to read) is the best for such a fast paced game.

    The death animations of the units should be enough.

    oh i just got an update.

    before a zergling kills a marine...it farts right on its face...and then gore the hell out of it.

    I wouldn't mind seeing melee animations for practical stuff.

    Like the hydralisks using HUGE SCYTHE ARMS to butcher things.

    Not a marine frantically butting away at a zergling with a gun.

    A gun that fires automatically and at high rates.

    as long as it's just an animation that doesnt need further balancing im okay with it :D

    Yes that is what i would like a little bit of everything else, you know, it's just icing on the cake.

    Marines should club with the butt of their rifles, when they have shields and bayonet stab right hard, Ghosts stab fast and deadly with machetes or knifes, and marauders just club with their damm big arms.

    Sync deaths were cool in DoW 1 and 2 but they sacrificed playability by making things invulnerable.

    I say they should go as far as they can without actually locking units to each other. That should still leave plenty of room for awesomeness.
