in the recent replay I watched the zerg player used a mass muta (22) to attack and was countered with mass stalkers (18). now this would normally be the battle leaning to the stalker side I'd say, however it seems that stalkers couldn't hold and muta destroyed them with half loss. mind you that this is only 10 min into the game. how do you make muta so strong? the zerg player had lair researched but other than research on the armor and weapon on the Spire, is there something else that I am missing? my muta is normally very delicate and die rather easy..
If your going against ground the weapon upgrade is very good because it does 3 more dmg per muta because of the bounce. If the zerg player was focus firing the stalkers by following what got hit by the bounce that could be why. In general though mutas as not armored so the stalkers dont get there damage bonus against them.
Huh, really? I always thought they took the damage of base attack and just divided it by 3 (rounding down with upgraded damage). Like frostbite said, if the Zerg player was targeting Stalkers who took the most "bounce" damage, then they're going to die a lot faster as a result. From my experiences, a Stalker vs. Mutalisk battle really comes down to who has better micro skills.
Much easier to focus fire with air units since they don't block each other. If the mutas focus fire they will easily win. Sounds like the stalkers were a bit lazy.
how do you micro differently? select all the mutas, right click on one stalker, after it dies, right click on the second one, and continue... muta has much shorter attach range than stalker. meaning in order to focus attach they will have to be within the group of the stalkers anyway, hit & run won't work with ball of stalkers standing close to each other, the micro involved would be rather straight forward... one further question: after mutas gain the bounce dmg, when they attack single target, would the bounce dmg also apply to the sole target? or the dmg get lost?
Sounds like the Protoss didn't have sentries. Guardian shield makes the bounce on the muta's glaive useless.
