Post your ideas on them, personally I think that if they are anything like War3s than I am going to go literally  making the ultimate Open RPG, starcraft style. I can only dream at this point.

  2. The ultimate open RPG, eh? Don't you think you'll have lots of comeptition? Regardless, I look forward to the map editor making me breakfast like Karune said it can do. That's a huge task in the morning when you're tired from the day before.

You do have a point i am going to have loads of competition and that is why I will strive to keep updating and that will force others to keep updating which would, in the end create a massive series of crazy custom games.

  4. Let's hope you can pull it off :D Already there are tons of great maps in development so this generation of Blizzard UMS/Campaign maps are sure to be far beyond ANYTHING ever seen before.

  5. this is very strange.. after lurking this forums for almost a year i finally created username today after playing a broodwar game of "custom hero wars" to make thread on this topic.

    beat me to it!

This is in the wrong board. Should be in maps and replays.

  8. i more specifically wanted to discuss what new editing features should/will make an appearance in sc2,
that is why the title "map-making capabilities" caught my eye.

Warcraft III's map editor was very advanced. I can't really think of anything other than refinements or making stuff easier to use (such a single button click for "hero glow" rather than the PitA method you have to use in Warcraft III).

Now, the fully coded ability system is awesome. Karune gave an example months ago; you could make roaches immune to nukes, actually growing in size (and stats) whenever they get hit by a nuke. The art panel from BlizzCon 2007 also showed awesome stuff (changing a beam attack's color, and turning the attack into a gross-looking tentacle).

The map editor can make breakfast?

Hmm, I hope theres is a way to implement a direct control function for individual units sort of like in SHOWW2 or Dogs of War using the map editor.

Ahh I see that now, sorry for the misplacement. Also Yellow Snake if you have only seen Brood War custom maps than you are in for quite a treat. Blizzard is quite skilled at getting the most out of their mapmaking programs. For example in Warcraft 3 which is a out of date game compared to this I created a map where there were two clans pit against eachother and you had to do anything to survive. You could actually die of hunger. You would need to hunt animals for food and supplies from their bones and such which you could then use to create a small encampment for yourself and clan based off of things like a clothing maker which you could process your hides into armor for yourself and things like that. Also you could find secret caves and things along those lines hidden throughout the map where it would provide a good defensive posistion for your clans camp. The mapmaking possibilities of Warcraft 3 were pretty much, endless. Starcraft 2 will probably be even more elaborate than that. Hope that answers your question.

The wc3 editor was a huge leap from the starcraft one, and yet when you compare the original release to the current one, they added SO MUCH over the years of patches.

When they finally decided to allow people to make their own spell triggers and code in jass, it caused a huge increase in map capabilities.

The sc2 one will have all this from the very start, and much more. I just hope it won't start off too complex since that turns people off, but allows enough customization to create things you thought weren't technically possible while playing the original starcraft 2... if you're crafty enough.

I'm buying this game almost solely for the map editor since I spent many, many days in the wc3 one.

If they allow some kind of way to transfer data between hosted games without having to type a ridiculously long ass generated code in the chat, continuable rpgs would be even more interesting.

Yeah, I wouldnt mind if they had something like a 'casual' and 'advanced' mode, similar to how SCMDraft for Broodwar had a classic trigger editor and an advanced one.

This thread is fine on General Discussion- the Maps and Replays board is intended for SC1 maps and replays. We'll create a dedicated SC2 Maps and Replays board once they start existing.
