Map Editor Questions #1: WC3 tech in SC2.

I hear blizzard is allowing some WC3 style features in SC2 via the map-editor (and perhaps single player) that won't feature in Melee games, such as heroes and items.

What I'd like to know is, will SC2 have all the abilities available in WC3? (I don't mean the graphics & sound etc, just the functionality).
    Things such as:
    1. Harvest lumber (Attack specific destructable to obtain resources, multiple attacks increase amount - perhaps scriptable).
    2. Unit & Hero inventory ability (with configurable slot numbers).
    3. Sleep & Hide at night. (This might be able to be scripted, but it would be tricky, however night/day cycle option would be cool).
    4. Item custom integers.
    5. Weapon-located effects (bloodlust, orbs etc).

WHY? I have an idea for a complex strategic mod that would use many of these effects. I could do it in WC3 now but I prefer to wait till SC2 comes out. Also, this would allow people to build a warcraft 3 mod in SC2 if they wanted (and I'm sure some people will).

PS: Would be extremely appreciative if someone would cross-post this on www.starcraft2.com. I used to have a SC1 key but I lost it somehow when I moved city, Pity you can't use WC3 account on www.starcraft2.com since it's kinda the next step from WC3 also.

    1. Definitely. You have that ability in SC 1 using triggers (Destroy building A, gain X resources/Building A takes N damage, Player 1 gains X resources)

    2. Doubt it. Hero's aren't really SCish. The ones in SC 1 weren't really more powerful, just had better equipment. Items aren't a big thing in SC, see 4

    3. If they implement a day/night cycle, I'm sure it can be scripted with triggers (A-B time-Unit visible; X-Y time-Unit invisible)

    4. VERY doubtful that there will be items in the War III sense

    5. That will totally depend on the so-called 'buffs' available in SC 2....As far as yet, SC 2 doesn't seem near as buff oriented as any of the WarCraft games, so it's doubtful there will be those ingame. However, with an extractor and one of many different skin editors, it should be possible to script that as well (Unit A moves to X location/Kills Y Unit/gains Z item [if they do end up being implemented], change Unit A skin to Unit B skin)

    1) I don't think that's scripted as an attack in Warcraft III. (However, workers could destroy trees rather than harvest them. I don't think it makes sense to be able to attack mineral chunks, though.)

    2) Yes (confirmed) and don't know.

    3) I suppose, but I hope not. I don't think it makes sense for pirates to sleep at night in a battle zone.

    4) I would assume yes, but I don't really know for sure.

    5) There's loot, so yes. I don't want to see "magic" weapons in the campaign, however.

Lots of people are using Warcraft III accounts on the StarCraft II General Discussion Forum... or so I hear. (There are certainly lots of Warcraft III icons there.)

Sweet I can log in, thanks Kimera. they must've changed it from being SC1 accounts only - probably did that ages ago and I didn't notice.

i think the answer to all of those is yes, it was said, that the sc2 editor has all the features from w3 and more, and since they already have a good system for items, i would be surprised if they didnt implement it

Im sure there are heroes, just not in melee games. But you'll be able to mess with them in the editor and I think heroes are in the single player campaign too.

Heroes are in the single-player campaign and the editor. The editor has also been confirmed to support items and leveling.
