I've always wanted to make my computer units more intelligent. For example, take this scenario from SC1: 1 arbiter cloaks a fleet of carriers and an enemy computer sends a ground assault of goons and lots. Naturally they would go for the arbiter until say, an observer comes along -- which focuses the attention of the computer onto the carriers.

I propose a "gambit-like" system much to the similarity of FF12 (if anyone hasn't played it, they should) where your own units would prioritize its attacks (up to 3 options). Like so:

    1. Attack Detection Unit. If no detection unit then:
    2. Attack air unit. If no air unit then:
    3. Attack unit with MP. If no unit with MP then go back to being good ol' AI

(also could've included Attack ground unit)

I know SC is a fast paced game and the inclusion of this will increase and decrease micro to a degree, but well, gimme your input guys. Of course, including this would set the release date of SC2 to an additional 1,000 years, which is not bad considering its set to release on Dec. 1, 5042.

    (just a little humor...HA)

Yeah I do get irritated when I tell my marine to go shoot an observer but then notice its wondering half way across the map to do it.

I always thought that would be a most excellent idea. It would be so useful!!! Of course, I also wish I could put a group of units under an AI, so I wouldn't have to micro them all the time. That would be awesome, I think. But will it happen? I doubt it...oh well, maybe they will at least have adjustable priority targets or guard areas or something...

You can just make them hold position.

I'm not talking about holding position, i'm talking about prioritizing which unit to attack first; which poses more of a threat.

they do prioritize. It just isn't any good.

I wish you could preset your own list like listed above (Detector, air, etc) to whatever you want

but, in the example i said above, if your whole strategy is based on cloaking, then to get rid of the detector should be priority numero uno as oppose to the units attacking you now that they can see you

It would be nice to ba able to created a priority list that will allow you to set what units you think each unit should attack first and also have an ovveride so if say an expensive BC is under attack all units will attck the units attacking the BC if in range and able. Also being able to set maximum distance a unit can wander away from where you left it would be nice too

I think the game shouldn't be this automated.

This is a good idea.. But if any good ideas like this were in the game it would be very complicated to play.
