I restart only when I have to.
Most games/programs work without a restart.

Hardware/driver updates are the ones that usually require the system to restart.

Ive grown quite used to restarting every once and awhile. Maybe once every two days or so.

Just to flush out the RAM.

And WHY do you say not really?

Any mac I have used has required a restart for any system change I made, whereas I haven't restarted my windows VISTA for... let's see what task manager says... 237 hours, 16 minutes.

whooops, not much of an answer eh?

well, restarting really depends on the contents of the comp.
like programs that needs to restart after update, OS updates, driver updates, etc.

if the user has lotsa programs, then he'll probably restart more than usual...

as for me... my comp has been on for like 42hours now, didn't restart even once

    I'm talking like...

I installed a custom theme on my Vista, cause I'm XhardXcoreX like that, and I had to restart like 4 times so I could patch the necessary .dll's. Now, I know most users aren't gonna do that kinda stuff, that it's totally outta the norm, but it gets kinda annoying, since I have a few programs autorun on boot (I added those programs manually [using StartUpDelayer, great app]), but it's just...urrrrrgh.

In my experience of using OS X I've only had to restart my imac after system updates that come through the software updater from Apple. Most of the Application updates from there don't need a restart. In real world numbers that means you could go weeks without a restart.

Personally I restart my imac only when it'll be out of use for a long period of time. I'm not a fan of letting it sleep for 24+ hours. But I needed to restart it yesterday and will on friday to install Snow Leopard. But before that It was like a 3 month time period I didn't need to restart it thanks to an update.

But really it's like 3 mins put of your day for it to restart and install the update. Not long. And then you're back to work on it.
